Ijebu Ife Day holds on Saturday, Salawa Abeni billed to entertain

This year’s Ijebu Ife Day celebration is scheduled to hold on Saturday, October 12, 2024, with Waka Queen, Alhaja Salawa Abeni billed to entertain.

Ijebu Ife is in Ijebu East local government of Ogun State.

According to a statement issued by the chairman of the media sub-committee, Chief Gbenga Omilola, the event will showcase Ijebu Ife’s rich cultural heritage in an atmosphere of excitement and pride.

Omilola quoted the acting chairman of the central planning committee of the event, Otunba Kamal Owode, as saying, “We are putting together a festival that will stand out in its uniqueness. This year, we aim to showcase the strength, history, and unity of Ijebu Ife in an electrifying celebration.”

Omilola said a major highlight of this year’s celebration will be the launch of a N100 million community development project and empowerment programme, aimed at driving sustainable development and creating opportunities for the people of Ijebu Ife.

The initiative, he said, would be unveiled during the event.

He said the prelude to the main event had already kicked off with a football competition, engaging various quarters of Ijebu Ife in a thrilling battle for supremacy on the field.

He added that a major crowd-puller would be the Ikokore Night, set for Friday, October 11, 2024.

The main event, scheduled for Saturday, October 12, 2024, will kick off at 10 a.m. with a number of activities.

The event will be hosted by the Ajalorun of Ijebu Ife, Oba Adesesan Afolorunso Oguntayo, while the chairman will be Chief Adesoye Gboyega Tunde, Osi Balogun of Ijebuland and Balogun Egbe Bobagunte (Okunrin) Akile-Ijebu, with Chief Amb. Zainab Afolabi Yemitan, Iya Egbe Jagunmolu Omooba Akile-Ijebu present.

Legendary Queen Salawa Abeni will entertain at the occasion.
