Oyo State Fire Services Agency has confirmed that fire razed eight shops and destroyed properties worth millions of Naira in an inferno that happened beside Sango Police Division Headquarters in Ibadan.
The chairman of Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Mr Moroof Akinwande, disclosed this in a statement issued in Ibadan on Tuesday.
Akinwande said that the fire which happened on Monday destroyed eight out of 84 shops in the area.
He said the agency got a distress call about the incident at exactly 12:43 p.m. on Monday through a telephone call from one Mr Akanni and immediately deployed personnel led by ACFS Bamidele Samsudeen to the scene.
“Upon arrival, we met eight out of 84 shops engulfed by fire.
“Firemen promptly launched a coordinated attack on the blaze and restricted the fire from spreading to other shops,” he said.
The agency’s chairman said the fire-fighting operation was carried out in conjunction with officers from the Federal Fire Service Ibadan Command.
Akinwande said that no casualty was recorded in the fire incident and the cause of the fire incident was yet to be ascertained, noting that investigation was ongoing to determine the cause.
