The new minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Mr. Nyesom Wike, has warned that any building found to have been built in distortion of Abuja masterplan will be demolished.
The minister gave the warning shortly after his inauguration as minister on Monday.
He warned that irrespective of the status of owners of such houses, they would be demolished.
His words: “People who are distorting the masterplan of Abuja… too bad.
“If you know you have built where you are not supposed to build, it will go down. Be it a minister of anywhere, be it an ambassador… if you know you have developed where you are not supposed to, your house will go down.”
The minister stated further: “Those who have taken over the green areas to build, sorry. The green areas must come back.
“So, if you know anyone involved, that has taken over the green areas or parks and turned them to restaurants, we will not accept that.

“If your father has done that, sorry. If your mother has done that, sorry. There’s nothing I can do. It will go down.
“There is refuse everywhere. Those who are paid for refuse collection, what are they doing?”
Also warning land speculators that it would no longer be business as usual, Wike said: “And those doing land marketing, the period for that is over.
“And those who have been given CofO (certificate of occupancy) and failed to develop, and they have become land speculators, the land is gone. I will revoke them.”
President Bola Tinubu on Monday inaugurated 45 new minister with Wike being one of them.
During the inauguration, Tinubu charged them to put the interests and welfare of the entire nation and its diverse population, above any regional or state-specific considerations.
The president underscored the immense responsibility the ministers had to shape policies that would significantly influence the lives of hundreds of millions of Nigerians.
He also warned the new ministers that they could not afford to disappoint Nigerians, who expected them to serve with integrity, dignity and competence to actualize the Renewed Hope manifesto of the administration—failing which he would not hesitate to take necessary remedial measures.
