An Islamic group, Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has condemned the action of the Principal of Isolo Senior Secondary School, Mrs. J.O. Sadare, who was accused of suspending five female Muslim students for wearing hijab.

The principal was reported to have taken the action on Friday, September 13, 2018.

MURIC described the principal’s action as “overzealous, infantile and condescending.”

According to the director of the group, Professor Ishaq Akintola, in a statement he issued on Monday, said the action of the principal was wrong.

The group called on the state government to act appropriately to forestall disorder.

“Lagos has a moral duty to protect the Muslim girl child. It is the only path towards peaceful coexistence.

“Lagos authorities should not wait until Muslim students and their parents mobilise to schools where their daughters are abused, stigmatized and traumatized.

“The continuous harassment of the Muslim girl child over hijab is a serious threat to public peace, a cog in the wheel of democracy, a drag on global best practices and a dent on the efforts of the state government to engender religious harmony,” the group said.
