The Police Command in Anambra has said that yet to be identified persons have attacked a vigilance group office in Umunze, Orumba-South local government area of the state.
The attack led to the killing of an operative of the group and the setting ablaze of five operation vehicles and part of the office.
The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said this in a statement on Friday in Awka.
Ikenga said that incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday.
He explained that one of the security operatives in an attempt to resist the gunmen during a gun duel recorded fatal injury.

“The unfortunate incident happened in the early hours of Thursday where the suspected armed men attacked the vigilante’s office at Umunze and set five of their operation vehicles ablaze.
“The security operatives in an attempt to ward off the gunmen during the gun duel recorded a fatal injury to one of the security operatives.
“Some parts of the security office also got burnt by the hoodlums,” he said.
He said the police-led Joint Security Force had taken over the scene to ensure normalcy in the area.
Ikenga also called for the collaboration of the local communities in the ongoing operations to ensure that those responsible for the attack were held accountable.
