Gunmen kill Benue MACBAN chairman, associate

The Police Command in Benue has confirmed the killing of the state Chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, Alhaji Ardo-Risku Mohammed, by gunmen.

The command also confirmed the death of another victim, Yakubu Isah, after an attack by gunmen.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, confirmed the incident on Friday in Makurdi.

Edet said the victims were attacked while returning from a security meeting in Ohimini local government area of the state.

She explained that the meeting focused on peace and security challenges affecting communities in the area.

According to her, the meeting ended successfully before the victims embarked on their journey home.

The police spokesperson said the victims were ambushed at a community in Otukpo local government area.

She added that both Mohammed and Isah were killed during the attack by the assailants.

Edet said the command had begun a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killings.

She assured that security agencies would work to identify, arrest and prosecute those responsible.

Mohammed attended the meeting as part of efforts to improve security and promote peaceful coexistence.

The police urged residents to remain calm and support investigations by providing useful information.

The command appealed to members of the public with credible leads to contact security authorities.
