A 12 years old female student of a private secondary school at Challenge area of Ibadan has been abducted by gunmen.
The Public Relations Officer of the Police Command in Oyo State, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed the incident in a press statement issued in Ibadan on Thursday.
He said the student was abducted at about 7. 20 a.m. on Thursday when she alighted from a vehicle at a junction leading to her school.
The police spokesman said however that detectives had been deployed for preliminary assessment and fact-finding after the incident was reported.
He said, “Eyewitnesses at the scene were identified and questioned, and their accounts are providing valuable leads to assist ongoing investigations.
“The parents of the victim have been contacted and are in close contact with the police as efforts continue to ensure the safe rescue of the child.”
The spokesman said the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, had directed a comprehensive and intelligence-driven investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and bring those responsible to justice.
The police officer called on members of the public to remain calm and support the police with any useful information.
The information and the informant would be kept confidential, he assured.
