Ayo Jaiyesimi’s classic play, ITAN the Story, will be on stage at the MUSON Centre, Lagos, on Christmas and Boxing Day.

As the producer is also marking the musical play’s 10th anniversary, she has assembled a rich cast combining experienced Thespians and emerging talents who are poised to give Lagos a special Christmas.

Among the actors promising a bang are ace comedian, Afeez Oyetoro, a.k.a. Saka;  Nissi George; Hephzibah Idakwo; Victor Oyebode (Boy Alinco); Oluwakemi Aderibigbe; Femi Oyegbile; Lilian Aliu and Boye Oshuntuyi.

ITAN the Story dexterously dramatises the intrigues that characterise the relationship between the old and the new in the delicate mission to move society forward.

Elders want to push the tested principles and ethics but the youth too want to have more than a say.

It is the search for this delicate balance that Jaiyesimi processes into a most engaging and entertaining play which, she says, will offer the audience a memorable Christmas and Boxing Day.

On what makes ITAN the Story a big deal, the multiple award-winning Jaiyesimi says, “ITAN is a landmark production that has been touching hearts and minds for a decade. Its themes of reconciliation, diversity, and unity are more relevant today than ever, and we’re thrilled to be celebrating this milestone anniversary with our audience.”

She adds that the play uses storytelling to promote reconciliation and bridge generational tensions, noting, “Through its rich narrative, music, dance, and costumes, ITAN the Story showcases the power of storytelling to bring people together and heal old wounds. The play encourages audiences to reflect on their own relationships and communities, and to work towards greater understanding and empathy.”

ITAN is a synthetic show giving the audience a lifelong experience as, in the African theatre total arts tradition, it encompasses music, dance and captivating costumes.

“Music, dance, and costume are integral to the storytelling in ITAN. They add depth, emotion, and vibrancy to the narrative, and help to convey the themes and messages of the play in a way that’s both entertaining and impactful,” Jaiyesimi further explains.
