Former workers of Honeywell Flour Mills Plc. stormed the Tincan Island office of the Flour Mills of Nigeria on Thursday to protest non-payment of their full entitlement after they had been disengaged.

The protesters said they were vexed by the decision of the company to deduct their gratuity from their severance package.

Carrying placards with different messages, they blocked the main entrance for hours and prevented movement into and out of the company.

Some of the messages in the placards read: “Flour Mills Pay Us Our Dues, We Are Responsible People” and “Our Gratuity Deductions, A Daylight Robbery.”

It would be recalled that in 2022, Flour Mills of Nigeria acquired Honeywell Flour Mills.

It was however gathered that in July 2023, no fewer than 190 staff of Honeywell Flour Mills were sacked with a promise to give them their entitlements.

The promise, it was learnt, was yet to be fulfilled about two months after they were relieved of their work.

The protesters said their grouse was the decision of the company to illegally deduct their gratuity from their severance package.

They said the gratuity had been paid to them long before the acquisition of Honeywell Flour Mills, hence it was wrong for the company to decide to deduct it from the severance package.
