The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed a gas explosion on Adeleye Street in the Doyin area of Orile-Iganmu, Lagos, leaving one person injured and two shops damaged.

The Deputy Controller General of the Service, Mr Olajide Ogabi, confirmed this in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos.

According to him, the agency receives a distress call at about 12:23p.m, with firefighters arriving at the scene by 12:34p.m.

“Crews from the Sari Iganmu and Ajegunle Fire Stations were promptly deployed to contain the resulting fire,” he said.

Ogabi said that the explosion occurred while an attendant was refilling a gas cylinder in one of two shops located in front of a demolished building.

“The attendant sustained severe injuries and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.

“The resulting fire also spread to the adjacent shop, causing significant damage.

“Emergency responders were able to bring the situation under control, preventing further escalation,” he said.

Ogabi said that no fatalities was recorded in the incident.

He said that investigations into the cause of the fire were ongoing.
