The Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, has denied the involvement of its Vice-Chancellor, Abayomi Fasina, in the arrest of the General Manager of Our Peoples FM,” Dr. Samuel Opeyemi Agbeleoba.

The denial was in reaction to the allegation by the Ekiti State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalist, that the arrest of Agbeleoba, one of its members, was in connection with the alleged sexual harassment case involving the vice chancellor, Professor Abayomi Fasina.

In a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, Mr. Foluso Ogunmodede, on Wednesday, the university said the vice chancellor had nothing to do with the arrest of Agbeleoba.

“Specifically, the NUJ goofed when it said the Vice-Chancellor was behind Agbeleoba’s arrest as a result of the sexual harassment case against the Vice-Chancellor,” the university said.

It explained that rather, the “DSS arrested Agbeleoba over his alleged involvement on personal matters which was completely different from the false claims of sexual harassment against the Vice-Chancellor.”

The statement by the university reads in part: “We want to put the record straight that the Vice-Chancellor has no hand in the arrest and detention of Dr. Samuel Opeyemi Agbeleoba.

“Whatever issues Dr. Agbeleoba has with the DSS is known to him and the secret agents as we did not orchestrate or mastermind his arrest and detention even as the case of sexual harassment being touted about is unfounded and we want the public to disregard this false enterprise.

“It’s also ridiculous for the NUJ to tag Agbeleoba’s arrest and detention with the unsubstantiated case of sexual harassment. This is grossly unfounded and baseless. “
