The federal government has increased the monthly allowance of corps members to N77,000.00 with effect from July, 2024.
The announcement was made on Wednesday in a press statement issued by the Acting Director, Information and Public Relations, National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Caroline Embu.
According to her, the increase was in line with the enactment of the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024.
Recall that corps members were being paid N33,000.00 before the increase.
Her words: “This is contained in a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, dated Sept. 25 and signed by the Chairman, Mr Ekpo Nta.

“Prior to this, the Director-General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Brig.-Gen. Yusha’u Ahmed, had paid an advocacy visit to the chairman in which he solicited for a robust welfare package for corps members.”
The NYSC spokesperson said that the NYSC director-general express gratitude to the government for the increase, saying it was timely.
According to her, the action would bring the much needed succour to the corps members, adding that it would boost their morale and strengthen their desire to serve the nation more.
