A statement issued by the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture on Friday, said the closure would begin at 7:00 a.m. on Monday to ensure a smooth and safe carnival procession.

The ministry listed the affected routes as King George V Road at the junction by Mobil Filling Station, Onikan Roundabout inbound to TBS, Flagstaff House inbound to TBS, Outer Marina by State House inbound to TBS, Campbell St. by the Old Defence Building, and Catholic Mission St. by St. Nicholas Hospital.

It noted that the temporary restriction was part of efforts to provide a secure and organised environment for participants and spectators expected to throng the Lagos Island corridor for the annual cultural celebration.

It also advised motorists and residents to plan their movements accordingly and use alternative routes during this period, while appealing for patience and understanding from road users.

According to the ministry, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has mapped out diversion routes to ease vehicular movement and reduce traffic congestion around the carnival axis.

It explained that vehicles coming from Obalende and descending toward Onikan Roundabout would be redirected to Zone 2, while those coming from Bonny Camp toward McEwen Bridge and from Flagstaff House to TBS would be diverted to Obalende Bridge.

Similarly, motorists approaching from Outer Marina to TBS would be redirected to Obalende Bridge to ensure free movement around the carnival route.

The ministry said the traffic plan was designed to minimise disruption to daily activities, especially for commuters and businesses operating within the Lagos Island area.

It expressed appreciation to residents and motorists for their anticipated cooperation, noting that the measure was necessary to guarantee a successful and hitch-free celebration.

“The state government regrets any inconvenience this may cause and appreciates the cooperation of the public,” the ministry said.

Fanti Carnival, a historic cultural event in Lagos, is expected to attract residents, tourists and cultural enthusiasts, showcasing music, dance and colourful displays that highlight the city’s rich Afro-Brazilian heritage.

SP Ramhan Nansel, the command’s spokesman confirmed this in a statement on Saturday in Lafia.

He said that the incident occurred on Friday morning when suspected hoodlums  carried out a reprisal attack over the alleged killing of two of their kinsmen.

“In the course of the attack, 11 people were killed, while about 52 houses were burnt in the two communities,” he said.

Nansel stated that Shetima Mohammed, the Commissioner of Police, CP, in the state, had led a team on an on-the-spot assessment to the affected communities to ascertain the level of destruction and ensure that normalcy was restored.

He said that the CP expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident and commiserated with the families of the deceased and the communities, assuring them of the command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that justice was served.

According to Nansel,  the CP has ordered an intensive manhunt for the perpetrators of the heinous act and directed tactical teams and investigative units to ensure their prompt identification, arrest, and prosecution.

“To prevent any further breakdown of law and order, the Commissioner of Police has also directed the immediate reinforcement and sustained deployment of Police personnel to the affected areas,” he said.

He further explained that the police were working in collaboration with the military and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, to provide adequate security and restore lasting peace in the area.

The police spokesperson further said that a stakeholders’ meeting was held during the visit, where the CP urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information to support ongoing investigations.

He, therefore, reassured members of the public that normalcy had been restored to the affected communities, while proactive measures had been taken to prevent any recurrence of violence.

Elder Onah passed on in the early hours of Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at an estimated age of 83 years, following a brief illness related diabetes.

A devout Catholic and member of the Catholic Men Organisation, CMO, as well as the Holy Family, Elder Onah was widowed in 2012 after the loss of his lifelong partner, Mrs. Onyikwu Theresa Onah.

In a brief statement on behalf of the family by Comrade Iduh L. Onah, dated Friday, April 3, the final burial rites of the patriarch will commence on Thursday, April 9, 2026, and conclude on Sunday, April 12, 2026.

A detailed breakdown of daily activities will be kick-started with a Final Homage by the deceased’s sons-in-law, a revered traditional ceremony termed Op’Ot’Okwu (literally meaning ‘adorning the corpse with shroud’) on April 9, 2026 between 12-6 p.m.

This ceremony will immediately be followed the same day by a wake‑keep at the family’s compound in Ogene from 9 p.m. till dawn of the following day.

On Friday, April 10, the body of the deceased will be lying in state at Family Compound all morning alongside a complement of other burial rites and ceremonies.

This will be followed by a Requiem Mass at St. Theresa’ Catholic Church, Ogene, after which interment will take place at the family compound.

The final rites of Passage – both Christian and Traditional – will start in an all-night ceremony until Saturday, April 11, 2026, when the rites of passage will be concluded with Christian and cultural dance troupes, particularly the popular Edumoga war dance, Oglinya as well as Ibo.

The final activity for the burial will be a Family Thanksgiving Mass at St. Theresa’ Catholic Church, Ogene.

Elder Onah is survived by three sisters – his immediate senior, Mrs. Martha Oyibo Onyocho, and two younger siblings, Mrs. Ojowu Agbo and Ms. Ochanya Catherine Onah – as well as nine children: Comrade Iduh Onah, Mrs. Janet Agbo, Mrs. Maria Ameh, Mrs. Jumbia Etuka, Mrs. Margarete Oji, Mrs. Mary Oheitonye, Mr. Sunday Itodo, Mr. Onah Jeremiah, and Dr (Mrs.) Juliana Ejeikwu, many grand-children and a great‑grandson.

The family invites friends, colleagues, and the wider public to join them in celebrating the life of their patriarch, celebrated for his kindness, devotion to family and deep faith in God.

The Media Officer of the operation, Capt. Polycarp Oteh,  disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Jos.

Oteh said that the feat followed an intelligence report on the movement of some suspected terrorists along the area.

“The momentum of this success in Karem community in Wase LGA where high-alert troops successfully disrupted a large-scale movement of terrorists travelling via motorcycles.

“Upon being engaged by troops, the insurgents fled under the pressure of sustained combat.

“In the engagement, three terrorists were successfully neutralised.

“This surge in operational efficiency follows the strategic deployment of a battalion plus specialised counter-terrorism troops, an initiative ordered by the Chief of Army Staff,” he said.

Oteh also disclosed that troops on Thursday arrested two suspects in connection with the security breach at Dutse Uku community of Jos North local government area.

He said that suspects, dressed in uniforms, were impersonating security personnel.

“These impostors, dressed in tactical black uniforms, were caught actively participating in the arson of residential properties and the orchestration of violence within the community.

“Those arrested are currently in custody while two persons who sustained gunshot wounds are currently in a medical facility and are in a stable condition.

“This pivotal arrest serves as a direct rebuttal to recent allegations suggesting military complicity in the Jos North unrest.

“It has effectively proven that the atrocities previously attributed to official personnel are being committed by criminal elements using deceptive attire to sow discord and defame the Armed Forces,” he said.

The Director, Public Relations and Information, NAF, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, made this known in a statement on Friday in Abuja.

Ejodame said the airstrike, conducted at about 1205 hours on April 1 by the Air Component of the Joint Task Force North East, followed credible intelligence and sustained surveillance confirming the presence of terrorists in the area.

He said the targeted enclave had been under close monitoring through Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance missions, which revealed significant activity and movement within the settlement.

According to him, NAF air assets executed precision strike missions upon confirmation of the targets, delivering multiple attack runs on structures and concealed targets used by the insurgents.

He said the strikes, described as highly effective, led to the destruction of key infrastructure, including logistics hubs and operational shelters within the enclave.

“Scores of fighters were neutralised during the bombardment, significantly degrading the operational capability of the enclave and disrupting insurgent movement in the area.

“The successful air interdiction is expected to create favourable conditions for ground troops to advance, dominate the area and carry out follow-on clearance operations,” he said.

Ejodame said the operation underscored the growing synergy between air and ground forces in the ongoing counter-insurgency campaign in the North-East.

It added that the enclave, believed to be a stronghold of ISWAP elements, suffered a major setback, with its command and support structures effectively dismantled.

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, reaffirmed the NAF’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven precision strikes against terrorist hideouts across the theatre.

Aneke said the air force would continue to work in close coordination with surface forces to deny terrorists freedom of action and eliminate all remaining enclaves.

He emphasised that the sustained air campaign remained critical to restoring lasting peace and security in the region.

You have to pretend to be a teacher because his mum doesn’t want him to marry a lawyer. You have to pretend you do not have a Phd because his ego is fragile and he’s thin skinned. You have to pretend your brand new car is ‘tokunbo’ because it would make him ‘feel somehow’. You are in the wrong place. You may be managing it now but a few years down the road, you will resent him and what he has turned you into. A woman who demands but supplies no value to your life is only good for a short ride. If you allow a girl to make more withdrawals than deposits in your life, you will be out of balance and in the red before you know it. You must know when to close the account and take stock. It’s always better to be alone with dignity than in a relationship that constantly requires you to sacrifice your happiness and self-respect.

Perception is reality. Emotional abuse is trickier because only the victim feels it. You have told yourself long enough that things will get better. It hasn’t. It won’t. Time to walk away is now.

He told you his woman will not go out to work which is why you are learning cake-making. Take a step back and see the road ahead. Are you where you want to be and do you see a future where you will be happy making cakes? If the only reason you are doing what you are doing is to make him happy and keep him, then you need to think again. He is mean and abusive. He is lazy and unambitious. But he has proposed and his nice ring is on your bruised finger. So you decide to wait it out expecting a better future. Wake up girl. You don’t live in the past, you don’t live in the future. Are you happy now? You need to make it to tomorrow. It is okay to hope for better days ahead but not in this situation. Take a good look at what you have, at him. If he is what he is, why do you think a wedding ceremony will change him?

In all, when you give yourself to someone who doesn’t add value to you, you surrender pieces of your soul that you’ll never get back.

SP Ramhan Nansel, Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in the state stated this in a statement to newsmen on Friday in Lafia.

The PPRO explained that on Sunday, March 29, at about 5:45 a.m. a report of the abduction was received from one Aisha Basa, a 19-year-old resident of Ungwan Bako, Orange market, Mararaba in Karu local government area.

The mother stated that her husband, Abubakar Isah, a commercial tricycle (Keke Napep) rider, had travelled to Lagos for business about five months earlier.

“She reported that on Saturday, March 28 at about 11:50 p.m. while she was asleep with her three-day-old baby in her house located at the outskirts of Unguwan Bawa, Orange Market, two unidentified men broke into the house, threatened her and abducted the baby to an unknown destination.

“Upon receipt of the report, Shettima Jauro-Mohammed, Commissioner of Police directed detectives of Mararaba ‘A’ Division to immediately visit the scene, and ordered a full-scale investigation into the incident.

“Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives on April 3rd, 2026 at about 4:00am arrested two suspects,” he added.

The police spokesperson further gave the details of the suspects as Furera Abdulrahman, 35 years, of Rugan Juli, and Sadiya Abdullahi, 39 years, of Unguwan Bako, Orange Market.

Nansel noted that the abducted baby boy was found in the possession of the suspects and was successfully rescued.

The police spokesperson further explained that during interrogation the suspects confessed to the crime and implicated an accomplice who is currently at large.

“The rescued baby was immediately taken to the Medical Centre, Mararaba, where he was examined by a medical doctor, certified to be in good health.

“The child has since been reunited with his parents after being discharged from the hospital,” Nansel added.

He further said that the case was under investigation and would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Lafia, for further discreet investigation upon completion of preliminary inquiries.

The PPRO therefore reassured members of the public of the command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property.

He urged citizens to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station for necessary action.

The announcement was made in a letter  to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, signed by the Interim National Chairman of the Labour Party, Sen. Nenadi Usman, and released to newsmen on Friday in Abuja.

According to Usman, the letter is to notify the commission of the approved schedule of activities for the Labour Party 2026 elective ward, local government area (lga), and state congresses, as well as the national convention.

She said the letter was in pursuant to the provisions of Section 82(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022 (as amended); the INEC Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties, and Section 223(1) and (2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).

The interim national chairman said the section mandated political parties to duly inform the commission of their congresses, conventions, and meetings.

“The Commission may kindly recall that the Party, in an earlier correspondence duly acknowledged, notified the Commission of the postponement of its previously scheduled activities to enable broader participation of members.

“Particularly, to allow for the completion of the ongoing digital membership registration process.

“Accordingly, the party has now approved a new timetable for the conduct of its Elective Congresses and National Convention.”

Usman said the conduct of ward congresses would hold on April 23, local government congresses, April 24 and state congresses, April 25 respectively.

“While the national convention has been scheduled for April 28 at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia, Abia.”

She urged the commission to draw the attention of its state offices to the notice to enable effective and seamless monitoring of the congresses and convention in line with its constitutional and statutory mandate.

Usman assured of the party’s continued commitment to the democratic development of Nigeria.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, made this known in a press statement on Friday.

He said the schedule of the president included receiving the Chadian President, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, and proceeding to Iperu, Ogun State.

The media aide said after Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s briefing, President Tinubu suspended the trip to Ogun.

“Overnight, the Presidential Villa made arrangements for the visit to Jos, with presidential assets quickly deployed. However, the president could not postpone the scheduled visit by the Chadian leader.

“The President of Chad was at the Presidential Villa for a very important bilateral meeting focused on strengthening security collaboration between the two countries. The meeting ran longer than expected, affecting President Tinubu’s scheduled departure for Jos,” Onanuga said.

He added that “Upon arrival in Jos, the visit encountered some logistical challenges. While the road distance from the airport to Jos township is approximately 40 minutes, the runway does not support night flights due to the absence of navigational aids. The constraints made it unfeasible to drive into town, meet victims for on-the-spot assessment and return to the airport before dusk.

“Consequently, state and federal officials decided to bring representatives of the affected community to a hall adjoining the airport so the president could meet with them promptly while adhering to flight restrictions.”

Onanuga said among the people in the hall were the Minister of Defence; the Chief of Army Staff and the Inspector General of Police, who had visited Rukuba, the epicentre of the conflict.

He said President Tinubu deployed the high-level team to Rukuba, including the Senior Special Assistant on Community Engagement, to undertake critical groundwork on security and community engagement, with a view to stabilising the area before his arrival.

“Beyond expressing his condolences to the victims, President Tinubu’s objective was to engage with critical stakeholders in Plateau State on ending the recurring, decades-old conflict that has resulted in needless loss of lives and property.

“President Tinubu’s visit to Jos was not merely symbolic. It was a strategic, high-level engagement aimed at bringing all stakeholders together to address the root causes of conflict and insecurity in the state,” Onanuga explained.

He said the president interacted with the victims, consoled them, and listened to them.

He added that Tinubu also listened to local leaders and assured them that the federal government would deliver justice and end the cycle of violence.

He was reported to have also promised the deployment of 5000 AI-enabled cameras to monitor the city and enhance the identification and arrest of troublemakers.

“Furthermore, the president invited the community leaders to Abuja for further talks on finding a lasting solution to the recurring violence in the state.

“The meeting, televised live, was solemn and reassuring, boosting residents’ confidence. President Tinubu achieved the purpose of his visit, despite the naysayers’ attempts to ridicule it. He dropped an unmistakable message: sustainable peace must be built with the people, not imposed on them,” he said.
