The football team of Lagos State University, LASU, on Monday outplayed Federal University Oye, Ekiti, 2-1 to record their first win at the ongoing 11th All Africa University Games, FASU.
LASU, dominating ball possession throughout the first 20 minutes of the game, was able to penetrate their defensive opponent to register their first goal through Emmanuel Okoro.
The team from Ekiti woke up from their slumber and took the game to LASU, the host, working hard to draw level.
Their efforts were rewarded when Teniola Samuel was able to connect a pass from the right hand side and beat LASU’s goal keeper to register their goal.
At a point, the match saw an end-to-end contest as both teams pushed themselves to gain control of the game to penetrate each other’s defence.
LASU grabbed the much-needed winning goal through Elijah Ayeni ,who connected a pass from a counter attack move.
In his reaction, FUOYE’s coach, Blessing Ayodeji-Ojo, said that his team did well, but lost concentration during the last minutes of the game.

“We lost the match due to lack of concentration, we lost so many chances as our attack line was not able to finish well.
“We have to work harder in our last game and try our best to get a win as all hope is not lost,” Ayodeji-Ojo said.
Arubiewe Ramon, coach of the victorious team, said that his team deserved the victory and gave credit to the entire coaching crew for strategisng to achieve the all -important win.
“It was a very good game, my players played as a team and worked very hard to get their victory.
“All credit to my coaching crew for drilling these players and bringing out the best out of them,” Ramon said.
