Why is Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD) crying that Dapo Abiodun, his current karma for retribution is chasing him around? What goes around must surely come around. OGD, who I admired his gubernatorial campaign creativity of the widely accepted “Daniel n’bo” – a Daniel evolving from the lion’s den concept, ran the old gentleman but intrinsically arrogant Osoba, out of town like a wild lion. OGD brought a strange politics of violence, cultism, propaganda, intimidation of opponents and total subjugation of state owned media stations – Our dear OGTV and OGBC.
I knew because I was involved and well on ground as Ogun State chairman of the then Gani Fawehinmi-led National Conscious Party, NCP. It took us in NCP protest to write a petition to INEC and OGTV management to allow us to breathe and give us a deserved space on the medium to ventilate our programmes and ideas, the fair media to all parties as explicitly stated in the electoral law which we and other parties were denied.
Permission reluctantly granted. Despite the assurances given to the management by my good friend and professional colleague, Deji Akinhanmi, of blessed memory, a management staff there, that Adeola Soetan, a media professional himself knew the rules of media ethics, he wouldn’t come to demolish the station with Wike-like bulldozer of unethical language against OGD for them to become easy preys for sack and roast. Almost all the management staff, including the GM came to the recording studio to monitor the content of my speech with apprehension and fear of my presence. Haba! One doesn’t need to be told they were all in chains of OGD emperorship and self-censorship.
Many of those enablers of OGD dictatorship including (unfortunately) some of my good mentees and friends, later became victims or outcast by the same evil regime they supported. A close friend who took me to Moshood Abiola Stadium for evening entertainment during OGD militarisation of the state with different armed thugs, had to quickly hurry me up for us to leave safely the stadium to avoid any accidental gun discharge from fully armed “OGD Boys” – the militia cult boys of impunity who can cause trouble as they wish for real or imagined enemies of the governor. I was very shocked that night.
It took the adoption of “were la fi n’wo were” Taye Currency’s violence for mega violence philosophy by Ibikunle Amosun a.k.a. “Baba Onifila Gogoro” , a calm but tough man himself to win his own governorship election. His little significant structural performance put a lie to OGD overrated performance of “turning Abeokuta, (Ogun) into small London” syndicated propaganda by “Awon Arabi” lol. Well, may be the London was in their banks and pockets sha, because people didn’t see any London in Abeokuta beyond Oke-Ilewo road expansion with street lights.
Governor Olabisi Onabanjo (R.I.P.) outperformed the two warlords together and the current occupant of Oke Mosan, Dapo, who is a product of the violence seed planted of chasing out predecessors to gain power and prominence in the rude and crudest of form in my Ogun State, a state with the best calibre of politicians, professionals, administrators , business tycoons, mothers and fathers. Unheard culture of violence before but it’s now the rolling culture of political ascension and domination.
Weep not OGD and pity him not. I knew how I managed to become an unwilling refugee in woman’s room in Sagamu (as advised) when I came to participate in the grand finale of a mammoth crowd campaign of our popular house of assembly candidate for fear that anything could happen to me in any known hotel in Sagamu and it was late to go back to Abeokuta.
OGD, what you sew is what you are reaping now bountifully, because what goes around must come around. It’s Ikokore breakfast, served hot and fresh for you. It’s a food chain of event, OGD chased Osoba out of town, Baba Onifila Gogoro, Amosun, chased OGD, Dapo is now chasing OGD . Your consolation is that wait for a karma in sight to chase Dapo Abiodun out of town too after he leaves office , Then Dapo would know that his crumbs eating automated Abobaku enablers are only loyal to the state fund he keeps in his inner pocket to be spent yafunyafun while our roads are crying for attention.
