A paraphrase of Proverbs 13:3-6 warns that “The person who speaks without thinking, or without control, may … tell secrets. His careless, harsh language will rebound to harm him.”
I recall when parents of David Oyedepo Foundation scholarship awardees were invited to come and sign the MoU alongside their children. As we congratulated one another, we all agreed that it was a huge financial relief for us as parents, especially for those of us who had more than one kid in the prestigious institution then.
Careless talk borne out of empty pride soon took over, and I’ll explain. As part of the scholarship conditions, beneficiaries were expected to do community service, with video evidence. Then trouble erupted.
The same parents who said the scholarship was a financial relief suddenly wanted to know if their kids could do community service overseas and upload the video because their kids must travel for the annual family summer vacation, yen yen yen.
I knew immediately that, with the unguarded talk by the parents, the terms & conditions of the scholarship were not likely to remain the same soon after. And I was proved right.
The scholarship was merit-based, but it could also be needs-based for some awardees. It was originally supposed to be open-ended once the awardee maintained a First Class grade. But everything changed by the end of the first year of that cohort and awardees were thenceforth required to write an essay about why they should have their scholarship offer renewed.

About half of the awardees subsequently lost the opportunity, even when they maintained the grade, all because of the careless, empty talk by prideful parents.
It is such careless talk that will rebound to harm Bobrisky and his handlers in the unfolding drama of the absurd that the nation is being treated to.
For an individual whose activities—especially in terms of his utterances and lifestyles—consistently make him a target of law enforcement agents, one would think that the controversial crossdresser would be circumspect. But, whosai!
Now, nobody remains in ‘wonder land’, as the convict is believed to have given the details of the behind-the-scene manoeuvers that not only put his ‘helpers’ in serious trouble but may probably catapult him back to jail to truly serve his term.
When the EFCC unceremoniously dropped the money laundering charge against him earlier in the year, many people did not understand why abuse of the naira should be weightier than money laundering, which is a direct assault on the national economy.
Again, when the convict emerged from jail looking fresh as a lily, people who had expected to see a Bobrisky in his original skin hue couldn’t but wonder how he achieved the uncommon feat.

Bobrisky has denied being the voice in the controversial audio-visuals being circulated by VeryDarkMan, but the government isn’t buying into it.
The way the crossdresser is going, he may have put himself up for serious trouble with his ‘inner circles’ who probably have reasons to fear that he might spill the beans.
He obviously hasn’t heard of omertà, which is the first rule people in his kind of circle get to assimilate.
