EXTRA: Birthdays and books, By Simbo Olorunfemi
Olorunfemi’s new books

I am rather laid-back when it comes to celebrating anniversaries of any form, birthdays inclusive. I have only recently grown to accept the ceremony around the transition from one year to the other, accepting it as a notable landmark for taking a pause to reflect on the journey and plan for a new phase.

With social media making celebration of birthdays a public affair, my attitude has also grown to be one of acceptance, mindful of the need to receive the kind thoughts and prayers that come with the day with grace and gratitude.

Even though I have not been as active as I used to be here (Facebook), friends have been generous with messages, kind words and prayers, for which I am grateful.

A few weeks ago, it occurred to me that I could as well just push to have a virtual release of the books on my birthday. As it turned out, that was quite some shot…

Towards the end of last year, I decided to put more work on curating my notes and thoughts on different subjects, as shared here over the years, in book form. That led to the birth of 3 Books – ‘Every Second Counts’ (Inspiration/Business); ‘Every Story Matters’ (People); and ‘Of What Use is History?’ (Public Affairs).

Then, there is a Collection of Poems – ‘We are Not Who We Are’, which I had not released to the public, a Collection of 10 Entrepreneurial Stories (How We Made It); and yet another book – a collection of writings on foreign policy and diplomacy by Ade Adefeko and I.

A few weeks ago, it occurred to me that I could as well just push to have a virtual release of the books on my birthday. As it turned out, that was quite some shot, as we were not able to get all the books ready for today.

Yet, as a pat on the back for the sleepless nights over the last few weeks to get the books ready, not to mention the symbolism of it, I decided on the virtual release of the books as planned, even though delivery of the new books is scheduled for 23.03.24.
