Senator Biodun Olujimi has been issued a Certificate of Return by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, as the representative of Ekiti South in the Senate.

The issuance followed the Court of Appeal verdict which declared her the true winner of the election for the senatorial district.

The election was held on Februrary 23, 2019.

Olujimi contested on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, while her closest rival, Prince Dayo Adeyeye contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

INEC had earlier declared Adeyeye as the winner of the election, but Olujimi challenged the victory at the election petition tribunal, alleging that the election was fraught with irregularities.

She claimed that she had the highest number of votes.

The tribunal ruled in favour of Olujimi, but Adeyeye headed to the Appeal Court to challenge the verdict.

Adeyeye’s appeal, however did not yield fruit as the court upheld the verdict of the tribunal, thus making Olujimi the true winner of the senatorial seat.

She was, as a result issued a Certificate of Return.
