Eid-el-Fitr: FG declares Thursday, Friday public holidays

The federal government  has declared Thursday and Friday as public holidays to enable Muslims celebrate Eid-el-Fitr.

Eid-el-Fitr is celebrated after the fasting in the month of Ramadan by muslims.

The announcement of the public holidays was made on Tuesday by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement issued by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Magdalene Ajani.

The minister extended the government’s warm greetings and heartfelt congratulations to Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan.

He called on Muslims to sustain the virtues of love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice, as exhibited in the month of Ramada.

He also urged Nigerians to pray for the peace, unity, and prosperity of the nation during the festival, just as he advised that they should celebrate responsibly and extend acts of kindness to the less privileged.

He added: “The federal government remains committed to fostering national unity and peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians.”
