Governor Godwin Obaseki has been barred by a Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, from participating in the Edo State governorship primary on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
This is according to a court paper that followed the suit filed by Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama who is a governorship aspirant on the platform of the party.
The court barred Obaseki from participating in the primary based on the position that he did not purchase his form for the contest within the original date stipulated for that purpose.
It would be recalled that Obaseki purchased the form after he defected from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the PDP and he was granted a waiver to contest the election.
Besides, Ogbeide-Ihama challenged the validity of Obaseki’s certificate
PDP is billed to hold its primary on Thursday, June 25.
The governorship election is scheduled to hold on September 19, 2020.
Obaseki is expected to challenge the verdict of the court barring him from participating in the PDP primary.
