Within the next few days, all types of semi-automatic weapons and assault rifles will be banned in New Zealand.

Already, the country’s parliament has voted to ban the weapon following the Christchurch attacks of mosques last month.

No fewer than 50 people were killed by a gunman, Brenton Tarrant, who went on rampage.

Once the decision is given royal assent by the governor general, it becomes law.

Addressing the parliament on Wednesday, the Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, said none of the victims of the shooting had just one gunshot wound.

“They will carry disabilities for a lifetime and that’s before you consider the psychological impact,” she said teary eyed.

She added: “These weapons were designed to kill, and they were designed to maim and that is what they did on the 15th of March.”

Tarrant who is an Australian, who carried out the shooting, described himself as a white supremacist, and he faces 50 murder charges and 39 attempted murder charges.
