The Oyo State government has assured residents of its readiness to prevent, detect, and respond effectively to any potential threat of the Ebola Virus Disease, EVD.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, stated this in a statement in Ibadan on Thursday.

The statement followed recent reports of Ebola outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of Congo, DRC, and confirmed cases in Uganda.

The commissioner stated that although Nigeria had not recorded any case of EVD, the state government is closely monitoring developments.

She added that the government had activated all necessary measures to safeguard residents’ health, noting that preparedness remained the most effective line of defence against disease outbreaks.

According to her, the Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration remains fully committed to protecting the lives and well-being of all citizens, hence public health security remains the government’s priority.

The commissioner disclosed that disease surveillance activities had been strengthened across the state’s 33 local government areas, with health facilities placed on heightened alert.

Ajetunmobi said Disease Surveillance and Notification Officers, DSNOs, rapid response teams, laboratories, and other critical response structures had been mobilised and were on standby for prompt action if needed.

She further revealed that the EVD Technical Working Group has been activated, while all critical preparedness pillars had been strengthened to ensure the state remained fully prepared for any eventuality.

She called on healthcare workers, public and private health facilities, traditional and religious leaders, community stakeholders, and residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspected case presenting with symptoms.

The commissioner listed the symptoms to include sudden fever, weakness, vomiting, diarrhoea, unexplained bleeding, or a history of travel to the affected areas.

She, however, urged residents not to panic, stressing there was no confirmed case of EVD in Oyo State or Nigeria.

She reiterated the government’s cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, NCDC, the World Health Organization, WHO, and others.

The working relationship, she said, was to ensure the state remained safe and adequately prepared.

Dr Tedros Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, WHO, has said that Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, DRC, have risen to 344 confirmed infections, with 60 deaths recorded so far.

Speaking during a news conference on Wednesday, Ghebreyesus said the backlog of suspected Ebola cases had dropped significantly from more than 1,000 to 116 as laboratory testing capacity continued improving across affected areas.

The WHO chief provided the update after returning from the outbreak epicentre in Ituri Province, where he met political leaders, frontline health responders and community groups involved in controlling the disease outbreak.

According to him, WHO’s latest risk assessment remains very high at the national level, high at the regional level, and low globally, in spite of ongoing efforts to contain transmission and strengthen surveillance.

He said confirmed cases had been reported across 24 health zones in Ituri, North Kivu and South Kivu provinces, underscoring the scale of the outbreak and challenges facing response teams.

“Treatment capacity has expanded with three centres and 80 beds now open in Bunia, plus units in Mongbwalu, Rwampara, Beni, Goma and Bukavu.

“Six people have recovered in DRC and two in Uganda, but contact tracing still lags at 45 per cent against the 90 per cent target needed to control spread,” he said.

Ghebreyesus said the outbreak had crossed international borders, with Uganda recording 15 confirmed cases and one death, including a Congolese resident who travelled through the United Arab Emirates.

He added that a U.S. citizen infected in DRC remained under treatment in Germany, while WHO continued coordinating with Ugandan and UAE authorities on contact tracing and exposure-risk assessments.

The WHO Director-General identified five major challenges slowing response efforts and emphasised the urgent need for stronger surveillance systems, community engagement and improved operational access in affected regions.

“First, testing delays persist, so WHO is decentralising labs to Mongbwalu, Beni, Aru, Nyakunde and Tchomia. Second, only 45 per cent of contacts are being followed in DRC due to insecurity and displacement.

“Third, blanket travel restrictions are disrupting supply chains in spite of WHO recommending exit screening instead.

“Fourth, community mistrust remains high, with some leaders still doubting Ebola is real. Building trust is now a core priority and Fifth, there are still no approved vaccines or therapeutics,” he said.

According to him, WHO has convened its Medical Countermeasures Network to accelerate trials and diagnostics, stressing that leadership, community ownership and trust remained essential to ending the outbreak successfully.

“Our ultimate measure of success is not whether we stop this outbreak. We will.

“DRC has stopped 16 previous Ebola outbreaks.

“The real measure is what we do to prevent the 18th and 19th, if communities survive Ebola only to die from malaria, malnutrition or other diseases, we have not really helped them.

“WHO pledged to stay after the outbreak ends to help build stronger health and humanitarian services under government leadership,’ he said.

World Health Organisation, WHO, has said that Democratic Republic of Congo, DRC, has reported nearly 1,000 suspected cases, including 220 suspected deaths, according to figures from health agencies and partners as at Wednesday, May 27, 2026.

In neighbouring Uganda, health authorities have reported seven confirmed cases linked to the outbreak, including two healthcare workers and one confirmed death.

WHO Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus said on Wednesday that Ebola Bundibugyo virus outbreak in Ituri province was spreading in an environment where insecurity, attacks on health facilities and population movements were making it “nearly impossible” to trace contacts and isolate cases.

“We cannot build community trust or isolate the sick while bombs are falling,” he said.

The Bundibugyo strain of Ebola, first identified in Uganda in 2007, has no approved vaccine or treatment.

WHO, however, warned that the outbreak was continuing to spread geographically, with evidence of ongoing cross-border transmission.

The outbreak is centred in Ituri province but has now spread across 11 health zones, with cases also reported in North Kivu – including in Butembo and Goma – and in South Kivu, according to the UNICEF.

Health officials said the virus is spreading through family clusters and health facilities, with infections linked to caregiving, family gatherings and unsafe funeral practices.

Efforts to contain the outbreak are unfolding in one of the most volatile regions of eastern DRC, where humanitarian access has long been constrained by conflict involving multiple armed groups, including the Allied Democratic Forces, ADF, CODECO militias and the Rwanda-backed M23 armed group.

A December 2025 report by the UN peacekeeping mission MONUSCO documented persistent violence across Ituri and North Kivu, including attacks on villages, health facilities and displaced communities that killed hundreds of civilians and forced widespread displacement.

Active fighting and restrictions imposed by armed groups also hampered humanitarian operations, limited civilian movement and disrupted access to essential services.

The violence has compounded an already severe humanitarian crisis.

According to the latest analysis by IPC – the UN-backed global food security monitor – nearly 10 million people across Ituri, North Kivu, South Kivu and Tanganyika are facing acute hunger between January and June 2026.

At the national level, an estimated 26.5 million people in DRC are experiencing high levels of acute food insecurity.

“Hunger and disease are old companions,” Ghebreyesus said. “People weakened by hunger are far more vulnerable to infections.”

WHO said conflict, poor infrastructure and insecurity were limiting the movement of aid and access to health services.

“In many affected areas, health facilities are either non-functional or operating under severe constraints due to insecurity,” Ghebreyesus said.

“Poor road conditions further restrict the movement of goods and humanitarian assistance.”

WHO is at the centre of a UN systemwide response, deploying emergency personnel, medical supplies and funding to help contain the outbreak.

The agency is also working with community leaders in Bunia to build trust and counter misinformation.

It has developed public information messages and awareness materials adapted to local contexts and translated into local languages for wider reach.

“Community trust is the foundation of effective public health response,” Julienne Ngoundoung Anoko, a WHO Community Engagement Officer deployed in Bunia, said.

“Without community support, outbreak control measures cannot succeed.”

Ghebreyesus appealed for an immediate ceasefire to allow humanitarian and medical teams safe access to affected communities.

“Stopping this Ebola transmission depends entirely on humanitarian access,” he said.

United Nations agencies have moved swiftly to contain the latest Ebola outbreak in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, DRC, delivering emergency medical supplies, protective equipment and logistics support.

UN spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric, gave the update on Thursday in New York while briefing journalists on the Ebola outbreak in DRC and Uganda.

“Our humanitarian and peacekeeping colleagues are continuing to support the government’s efforts regarding the fast-spreading outbreak of Ebola and the deterioration of the humanitarian situation.

“The province of Ituri remains the epicentre of the outbreak with the most affected areas in the towns of Rwampara, Mongbwalu and Bunia.

“These towns may not be familiar to you, but it’s important to note that they are densely populated.

“The peacekeeping mission (MONUSCO) is providing critical logistical assistance to enable the rapid delivery of medical supplies and equipment to Bunia, where response efforts are being reinforced,’’ Dujarric said.

The spokesperson said the mission also made available four light passenger vehicles to support surge team operations in Ituri.

In addition, he said MONUSCO had positioned one helicopter to support flights to affected areas in Ituri as required.

Two ambulances and two armoured vehicles, he added, were also en route from Goma to Bunia to support medical evacuation and outreach in areas with high security risks.

“This material will be made available to our World Health Organisation (WHO) colleagues.

“There are increasing concerns also over the spread of Ebola to the province of North Kivu, where cases have now been confirmed in Goma, Butembo and Katwa.

“Our colleagues note that these are urban areas with a history of Ebola transmission,” he said.

“In North Kivu, partners are strengthening surveillance, introducing screening at points of entry and adapting operations, including remote coordination where it is needed.

“To strengthen the mobility of health teams engaged in contact tracing and rapid response, MONUSCO has also sent motorcycles from Goma and Beni, while additional ones are being serviced in Bunia for handover to WHO,’’ he added.

In addition to this, he told journalist that a new case was reportedly confirmed by local authorities in South Kivu, in the town of Bukavu.

The case reportedly concerned a person arriving from Tshopo, which borders Ituri province.

“As we have said before, but it’s worth repeating, this outbreak is unfolding in a context marked by displacement, marked by insecurity, marked by high population mobility and significant access constraints for humanitarians and peacekeepers.

“All our colleagues on the ground, whether they be United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Peacekeepers, WHO, World Food Programme (WFP) , UN child rights agency (UNICEF) and many others will continue to work and to do their best in support of the population,’’ he said.

Meanwhile, WFP is facilitating the transport of aid workers, medical supplies and essential cargo into hard-to-reach areas and stands ready to scale up efforts.

It is also providing critical logistics services on behalf of the wider humanitarian community, in addition to providing food and nutrition assistance to patients, survivors, contacts and affected households.

WFP currently needs over 214 million dollars to support operations in the DRC, and over 10 million dollars specifically for Ebola response.

Also, UNCEF has voiced its concern for children as they “are especially vulnerable to the impacts of Ebola outbreaks, including disruptions to essential services, loss of parents and caregivers, stigma, psychosocial distress, and increased protection risks.”

UNICEF support to date has included mobilising nearly 50 tonnes of supplies that include disinfectants and soaps, personal protective equipment, water purification tablets and water tanks.

An Emergency Rapid Response team is also on the way to Bunia to provide technical assistance in priority areas, including support for risk communication and community engagement.

Although over 2,000 community health workers are already in place, additional capacity and resources are urgently needed, particularly in hard-to-reach areas.

The DRC has battled Ebola 17 times since the virus was first discovered 50 years ago.

The latest outbreak was caused by the rare Bundibugyo strain, and no vaccines or medicines currently exist to treat it.

To date, there have been 139 deaths in the DRC, and some 600 suspected cases, while Uganda has confirmed two cases.

WHO declared that the outbreak was a public health emergency of international concern requiring countries to coordinate and cooperate on response but not a pandemic emergency.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, NCDC, has said Nigeria has not recorded any confirmed Ebola case linked to the current regional outbreak.

The agency said surveillance and preparedness activities remained active nationwide to detect any possible infection promptly.

The centre, in a Wednesday statement issued in Abuja, said it was responding to misinformation circulating about the outbreak by providing verified facts about Ebola transmission, prevention, symptoms, and the country’s preparedness measures nationwide.

It said rumours claiming Ebola was already spreading widely in Nigeria were false, emphasising that no confirmed cases existed while health authorities continued monitoring and preparedness efforts for any sign of the disease nationwide.

The agency also dismissed claims that salt water, bitter kola, herbs, or seasoning cubes could prevent or cure Ebola,

It emphasised that no approved home remedies existed for the deadly viral disease presently.

“People say Ebola and Hantavirus are the same disease. Hantavirus spreads mainly by inhaling rodent dust and rarely between people.

“Ebola spreads through direct contact with bodily fluids.

“Some people said that Ebola outbreaks are deliberately created or manipulated.

“The truth is that Ebola is a known viral haemorrhagic illness with a history of outbreaks in several countries,” it added.

According to the agency, public health authorities and healthcare workers were responding to protect lives and contain further spread through established protocols, disease surveillance systems, evidence-based interventions, and coordinated emergency preparedness nationwide efforts.

“People believe if someone has a fever, it must be Ebola. The fact is that many illnesses cause fever, including malaria, typhoid, Lassa fever, and other infections.

“Healthcare workers use case definitions, travel history, symptoms, and laboratory testing to identify the real cause.

“Mislabeling delays proper treatment and fuels unnecessary fear,” it said.

The statement also addressed concerns about healthcare facilities, saying hospitals and clinics were strengthening infection prevention and control measures to protect patients, healthcare workers, and visitors during any suspected disease outbreak situation.

“This includes triage systems, hand hygiene, use of personal protective equipment, and isolation procedures.

“These steps protect both patients and healthcare workers and reduce transmission risk inside hospitals,” the statement added.

The agency further dismissed rumours suggesting Ebola only affected other countries, stressing that although Nigeria had no confirmed case, regional outbreaks still required vigilance, preparedness, and responsible public health behaviour from citizens nationwide.

“Responsible public health behaviour reduces the risk of importation and onward transmission if a case occurs,” it said.

The agency also cautioned Nigerians against spreading unverified information capable of causing unnecessary panic and confusion nationwide.

The centre urged the public to rely only on information from official health authorities and credible sources, while advising regular hand hygiene and avoidance of contact with bodily fluids of sick persons.

It also advised Nigerians against handling sick or dead animals, including bushmeat from unknown sources, urging citizens to report unusual illnesses promptly and remain calm, vigilant, and guided by verified public health information.

“Symptoms of Ebola infection may include fever, weakness, headache, muscle pain, and sore throat. Other signs are vomiting, diarrhoea, and in severe cases, bleeding.

“If you develop these symptoms, seek care immediately. Do not self-medicate and do not delay reporting to health authorities,” it added.

The agency also encouraged early reporting and prompt medical intervention to save lives nationwide.

UN World Health Organisation, WHO, has said that it has recorded more than 500 suspected cases, including 130 suspected deaths in the Democratic Republic of Congo, DRC, Ebola outbreak so far.

WHO’s representative in DRC, Dr Anne Ancia, told reporters in Geneva on Tuesday that only 30 cases had been confirmed in the country so far from the suspected deaths.

She said the agency was working closely with the authorities and rushing more testing kits to eastern DRC to identify cases of infection of Bundibugyo virus, a species of Ebola virus for which there are no vaccines or therapeutics.

“We have significant uncertainty about the number of infections and how far the virus has spread,” Ancia said.

Speaking from Bunia in Ituri province where cases were initially detected, Ancia said the outbreak had also reached North Kivu, with confirmed cases in Butembo and Goma.

Uganda has also confirmed two imported cases.

“I don’t think that we have the ‘patient zero’ for now,” Ancia said.

“What we know for now is that on May 5, there was a person who died in Bunia. The body was brought back [to] Mongbwalu and put in a coffin. And then the family decided that the coffin was not worth the person.

“And therefore they changed the coffin. And then there was the funeral, and it’s from where it started.”

Detection of the initial cases was slowed down by the fact that local tests in Bunia showed negative results for the more common Zaire strain of Ebola.

The wide range of symptoms – fever, fatigue, diarrhoea and vomiting – also complicated the task of making a swift diagnosis.

This was in addition to the additional difficulty that the nosebleeds associated with the disease, which did not begin until day five of infection, the WHO official explained.

In the end, it was only through tests in Kinshasa that the presence of Bundibugyo virus was finally revealed.

Ancia said that there was a focus on the international level on potential candidate vaccines or treatments which could help fight the outbreak.

A WHO technical advisory group was scheduled to meet on Tuesday afternoon “to provide further recommendation to the WHO and its Member States on which potential vaccine should be prioritised,” she explained.

Ervebo, a vaccine against the Zaire Ebola virus, is under consideration, the WHO representative said, but “it would take two months for it to be available.”

While a vaccine could bring additional prevention and protection to the affected populations, the key to containing transmission lies in grassroots work within the communities.

That, it explained, was to raise awareness, fight misinformation and ensure adherence to sanitary measures, especially around funerals.

“If we use coercive measures and the population does not agree, we will see bodies disappear. We will see suspected cases refusing to come to the hospitals and health facilities,” Ancia warned.

She underscored health workers’ continuing engagement with schools, churches and community leaders.

Ancia said WHO was supporting the government-led response with more than 40 health professionals on the ground and through the deployment of supplies and extra diagnostic capacity.

She said that it remained a “highly complex epidemiological, operational and humanitarian context”, characterised by insecurity and displacement.

Meanwhile, the UN refugee agency, UNHCR, said on Tuesday that the affected provinces of Ituri and North Kivu were home to more than two million internally displaced people and returnees.

It said that healthcare capacity remained weakened by conflict.

“There is also concern for refugees living in the affected areas.

“In Ituri some 11,000 South Sudanese refugees require preventive assistance while in North Kivu’s capital, the rebel-held city of Goma, more than 2,000 Rwandan and Burundian refugees need sanitary supplies.

“The most recent outbreak of the Ebola Zaire virus in DRC ended in December 2025, and the trauma of a major epidemic in North Kivu and Ituri in 2018-19 persists among the population,” she said.

Ancia stressed that while it may be two months until a vaccine is available, “it is not two months before the outbreak will be done.”

The UN has called on the international community to urgently scale up support for both the Ebola response and the broader humanitarian response in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

UN Spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric, made the call on Monday in New York while briefing journalists on the update of Ebola outbreak in the DRC and Uganda.

According to Dujarric, the World Health Organisation, WHO, says the Ebola outbreak in the DRC and Uganda constitutes a public health emergency of international concern.

He added that it highlighted the high risk of further spread and the likelihood that the outbreak might be larger than currently detected.

“Without immediate action, life-saving assistance will not reach those most in need and critical humanitarian gains risk being reversed.

“The 1.4 billion dollars Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan for the DRC is currently 34 per cent funded with 478 million dollars received,” he said.

Dujarric said UN peacekeeping colleagues on the ground reaffirmed their support to the authorities of the DRC, WHO and all partners involved in the response to the Ebola virus disease outbreak.

The UN Mission in the DRC, MONUSCO, is closely following the guidance of the Ministry of Health and WHO and continues to adapt its prevention measures accordingly.

MONUSCO Medical Services have already reinforced screening procedures at the entrance to Mission clinics and the systematic use of personal protective equipment for medical personnel in contact with patients.

The mission also underscored the importance of reliable and verified information and encourages everyone to refer to official communications from competent health authorities.

The Mission remains mobilised, within its mandate and in coordination with the Congolese authorities and relevant partners, to support an effective response aimed at protecting populations and contributing to health security in affected areas.

Dujarric further said the outbreak involved the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus, for which there are currently no licensed vaccines or specific therapeutics.

“The outbreak is centred in the province of Ituri, where more than 482 suspected cases have been reported since April, including eight confirmed cases and around 116 deaths among suspected cases across several health zones.

“Testing of suspected cases is ongoing. A case was also confirmed on Sunday in Goma, in the province of North Kivu, raising concerns about potential spread in a densely populated urban area.

“We, alongside humanitarian partners, are supporting the Government-led Ebola response,” he said.

WHO is supporting national efforts through, among other things, the deployment of technical expertise and rapid response teams.

“More than five tons of WHO medical supplies, along with experts, were airlifted to Ituri by the World Food Programme to reinforce response efforts on Sunday

“Needless to say, additional resources and sustained humanitarian access will be critical to contain the outbreak and prevent further spread.

“We and our humanitarian partners warn that insecurity, population movements and displacement are significantly complicating surveillance, contact tracing and response efforts, in a context already marked by violence, food insecurity and severe needs.

“Nearly 9 million people across the eastern provinces of Ituri, North Kivu and South Kivu are facing crisis or worse levels of hunger, further straining fragile health systems, while only 30 per cent of required health funding has been mobilised,’’ he said.

The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency, LASCOPA, has warned residents against consuming spoilt or fungus-infested tomatoes, popularly known as ‘Ata Esha’, saying the consumption could lead to serious health risks.

Afolabi Solebo, the agency’s General Manager, issued the warning in a statement signed by the Assistant Director, Public Affairs, Mr Adesile Rufai on Sunday in Lagos.

Solebo urged consumers to avoid purchasing or consuming tomatoes with visible white, green, or black fungal growth.

“Fungi found on spoiled tomatoes may produce harmful toxins, including aflatoxins, which can lead to severe health complications, such as liver damage and related diseases.”

Speaking on the importance of healthy food consumption, Solebo said: “A healthy person is determined by what he or she consumes from time to time.”

He further explained that cooking, boiling, or frying contaminated tomatoes may not eliminate the harmful toxins, thereby making such food unsafe for human consumption.

The LASCOPA boss cautioned consumers against purchasing spoilt tomatoes because they are sold at cheaper price.

He stressed that health and safety should always take precedence over cost considerations.

Solebo encouraged Lagos residents to carefully inspect food items before purchase and avoid visibly spoilt or mouldy tomatoes and other food products.

He advised consumers to properly dispose contaminated food items and report the sale of unsafe, expired, or spoilt products to the appropriate government agencies responsible for public health, environmental safety, and consumer protection.

“Consumers have fundamental rights, as well as responsibilities, including being well-informed about products and services, speaking out against unfair practices, and making ethical and environmentally conscious choices.”

Solebo added that government monitoring and enforcement teams had been deployed to markets across the state to apprehend traders engaged in the sale of unsafe food products.

The World Health Organisation, WHO, has declared the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, DRC, and Uganda a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.

WHO cited the rising cases, cross-border spread and significant uncertainties about the scale of the epidemic.

The decision, announced by WHO Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus on Sunday, follows reports of both confirmed and suspected infections linked to the Bundibugyo strain of the virus.

While the situation is serious, it does not currently meet the criteria for a pandemic emergency under the WHO’s international Health Regulations.

As of May 16, health authorities had recorded eight laboratory-confirmed cases, 246 suspected cases and 80 suspected deaths in Ituri Province in eastern DRC.

Cases have also been confirmed in the capital, Kinshasa, and across the border in Uganda, where two infected individuals travelled from DRC and were admitted to intensive care.

WHO warned that the outbreak was likely larger than currently detected, pointing to clusters of unexplained deaths, a high positivity rate among tested samples and limited understanding of transmission patterns.

At least four deaths among healthcare workers have also raised concerns over infection prevention measures in health facilities.

The agency stressed that the outbreak poses a risk to neighbouring countries due to high population mobility, trade links and ongoing humanitarian challenges in affected regions.

In spite of the risks, WHO does not recommend restrictions on international travel or trade.

It, however, urged countries to strengthen surveillance, preparedness and community engagement, while ensuring accurate public information.

Authorities in DRC and Uganda have been advised to activate emergency response mechanisms, enhance contact tracing and laboratory testing, improve infection prevention and scale up treatment capacity.

Community engagement, including working with local and religious leaders, is also considered critical to controlling the outbreak.

WHO highlighted that no approved vaccines or specific treatments currently exist for the Bundibugyo strain, underscoring the importance of accelerating research and clinical trials.

An Emergency Committee, it said, would be convened to provide further recommendations, as global health authorities step up efforts to contain the outbreak and prevent wider spread.

A food and wellness therapist, Mrs Ifeoma Onuoha, has said regular intake of good nutrients helps the heart to work efficiently and manage blood pressure.

Onuoha, the Chief Executive Officer of MIC Food and Wellness Ltd. spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, on Friday.

She said that the first and important strategy for effective management of HBP was to lower the sodium intake.

The therapist noted that excess sodium could lead to high retention of fluid in the arterial side of the heart and would affect the pressure in the arterial walls.

She advised that increasing intake of foods rich in potassium, magnesium, and calcium helped arteries, nerves, muscles and the heart to function well.

“Potassium helps to relax the arterial walls, for flexibility so that the heart can carry nutrients, oxygen, and blood to the various parts of the body.

“Magnesium helps to regulate the nerves and muscle walls of the arteries. When foods from natural sources are taken, the body assimilates them easily without putting pressure on the liver.

“When we step up in taking food rich in calcium, it assists the heart to relax the blood vessels around it,” she said.

She mentioned some of the macro minerals capable of regulating the blood pressure as follow: banana, sweet potatoes, betroots, hibiscus flower (zobo) , almond seeds, pumpkin seeds, spinach Greek yogurt, among others.

Onuoha recommended a healthy diet, based on vegetables, fruits, whole grains, lean protein for the management of hypertension.

She encouraged those living with hypertension to stay away from processed foods because they contained salt as an enhancer and also quit taking alcohol as it had no nutritional value.

She pleaded that people should pay attention to their body, to identify symptoms that needed to be addressed, to avoid unnecessary break down.
