The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, President Muhammadu Buhari and the Muslim human right group, Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, have expressed their condolences over the death of Alhaji Sakariya Olayiwola Babalola.

Babalola was the Deputy President General (South), NSCIA.

In a statement issued by its Deputy General Secretary, Prof. Salisu Shehu, to announce his death, NSCIA stated:  “The Council commiserates with His Eminence, the President General of NSCIA and Sultan of Sokoto, the National Officers of NSCIA, the Executive Security and the entire MUSWEN family, the family of the late leader and the generality of Nigerian Muslim Ummah on the demise of Alh. Babalola. The Council prays that Almighty Allah admit its late leader to Aljanna Firdaos.

“We also pray that Allah grant the family and all the Ummah fortitude to bear the loss and cope with the big vacuum he left behind.”

In the same vein, President Muhammadu Buhari, in his message of condolence, said the deceased would be remembered for a long time for his contributions to the Islamic community in Nigeria, particularly in his capacity as the President-General of the Muslim Ummah of Southwest Nigeria, MUSWEN.

The president who described him as an accomplished businessman, whose life was defined by service to others, prayed Almighty Allah to grant his soul eternal rest and comfort all who mourned.

In a condolence message issued by its director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, MURIC described Bablola as a committed Muslim who spent the greater part of his life promoting the religion of Islam.

The statement by MURIC reads in part:  “Babalola was a lover of young Nigerians and he empowered many economically. An industrialist of great repute, he was a strong believer in hardwork, dignity and honesty. He was also a disciplinarian of no small measure…

“He was kind-hearted, humane and pious. Alhaji Babalola was visionary and he encouraged his close associates to plan for the future. He was the most popular and dynamic Muslim leader in the South West. Nigerian Muslims will miss him.

“MURIC mourns Alhaji Sakariyau Babalola with nostalgia. Reminiscences of his action-packed interactions with us at meetings, conferences and long trips flash intermittently in our minds. He was an incomparable father and mentor. Our hearts bleed…

“May Almighty Allah overlook his trespasses, widen his grave and make his Qiyamah and Al-Akhirah (Resurrection and Hereafter) events of joy for him. May Allah continue to protect and bless all he left behind.”
