Hon. Tajudeen Abbas has been declared the new Speaker of the House of Representatives, having recorded the highest votes in the contest for the post.
Abbas defeated the immediate past Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Idris Wase and Sani Jaji
He scored 353 votes while Wase and Jaji scored three votes each.
Shortly after the declaration, Abbas was sworn in.
Abbas has as his deputy, Benjamin Kalu.
Kalu was sworn in after his nomination and ratification.
Before the election, Abbas was nominated for the post of the Speaker by the immediate past Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Alhassan Ado-Doguwa.
The nomination was seconded by Hon. Nnolim Nnaji.
