The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has declared March 1, 2025 as the first day of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
The sultan made the declaration on Friday in his palace as he announced that the moon had been sighted.
According to him, the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs had verified and accepted the widespread reports of moon sightings from various regions of the country.
He said with the confirmation of the sighting of the moon, fasting would commence on Saturday.
The sultan called on Muslims to dedicate the month of Ramadan to supplication for the blessings of Allah for the nation and its leaders.
