Nigerian singer and songwriter, Onyeka Onwenu, is dead.
She was 72 years old.
Onyeka, according to TheNiche, a credible online newspaper, slumped after performing at the 80th birthday party of Mrs. Stella Okoli, a pharmacist, and founder of Emzor pharmaceutical manufacturing company in Lagos.
She later died at Reddington Hospital in Lagos.
An eyewitness at the party was quoted as saying: “It is very sad. Onyeka Onwenu just performed at the birthday of Mrs. Stella Okoli today, and after performing, she slumped. She was taken to Reddington Hospital and she couldn’t make it.”
Born on January 31, 1952, Onyeka Onwenu was a singer and songwriter, actress, human rights and social activist among others.
She was described as the “Elegant Stallion” by the Nigerian press and was at a time, chairperson of the Imo State Council for Arts and Culture.
