Makinde presents staff of office to new Alaafin, Owoade

Oyo State governor, Mr. Seyi Makinde, has presented the staff of office to the new Alaafin of Oyo, Abimbola Owoade.

The presentation was carried out on Monday at the governor’s office at Agodi, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, and was attended by dignitaries including traditional rulers, government officials and people of Oyo.

Recall that the governor approved the appointment of Owoade on Friday.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Dotun Oyelade, Owoade’s appointment followed due recommendation, thorough consultations and divination by the Oyomesi.

Oyomesi is a council of high-ranking chiefs and kingmakers in Oyo Kingdom.

While presenting the staff of office to the new Alaafin today, the governor expressed his confidence in him.

“We are assured that Oba Owoade will lead with wisdom, integrity, and a strong commitment to fostering unity,” Makinde said.

The new king, in his acceptance speech, gave the assurance that he would give priority to the development of his kingdom and the wellbeing of its people.

His words: “I will devote myself to the advancement and prosperity of the Oyo Kingdom while ensuring that the traditions and values that have sustained us for generations remain steadfast.”

Owoade who is the 46th Alaafin succeeds the late Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III who passed on in April 2022.
