The Department of State Services, DSS, has denied reports that the suspended Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, is in its custody.
Reports are rife that Emefiele was arrested by the DSS in view of the ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy.
But reacting to the report of the alleged arrest, the DSS, on its official twitter handle, @officialDSSNG, tweets: “Currently, Emefiele is not with the DSS.”
FrontPage reports that President Bola Tinubu suspended Emefiele from office with immediate effect as Governor of the CBN.
The announcement was made on Friday in a statement by Willie Bassey, Director, Information Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
Emefiele, it was revealed, had been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), Mr Folashodun Shonubi.
Shonubi, it was said, would act as the CBN Governor, pending the conclusion of investigation and the reforms.
“Mr Emefiele has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the CBN Governor, pending the conclusion of investigation and the reforms,” the statement from the office of the SGF reads in part.
