
The ancient town of Ijebu Ife, Ijebu East local government area of Ogun State, was agog at the weekend as a book on the town was unveiled.
The book is by a photo-journalist, Mr. Dayo Adedayo.
This was even as a chieftain of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, Dr AbdulHakeem Adetugbobo, bagged the title of Otunba Amesofe of Ijebu Ife.
While performing the official installation of the new chief, the Ajalorun of Ijebu Ife, Oba Adesesan Afolorunso Oguntayo, said Adetugbobo was bestowed with the title in view of his link with Amesofe, one of the three ruling houses of the town.
However, the monarch added that Adetugbobo who is the D-G of a Lagos strategy group, Asiwaju Grassroots Talk, AGT, was considered for the conferment in view of his commitment and contributions to the development of the town.
He noted that “it is my pleasure and privilege to approve and confer on you the traditional and royal chieftaincy title of Otunba Amesofe of Ijebu Ife which you merit by all standards.”
Speaking at the event, Chairman, Lagos APC, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, described Adetugbobo as a true party man committed to the advancement of democracy in Lagos State and in Nigeria.

He recalled that the party benefitted from Adetugbobo’s influence at the grassroots in the 2023 general elections, stressing, “Dr Adetugbobo’s deployed his army of grassroots mobiliser in AGT to ensure that our party came tops at the 2023 elections. I am confident that he would bring his experience as a grassroots mobiliser to enhance social-economic development of Ijebu Ife.”
In his speech at the occasion, the Lagos State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Honourable Tolani Sule, commended renowned photo-journalist, Dayo Adedayo, for rolling out a well detailed book on Ijebu Ife.
Sule said the book would go a long way in further projecting the already enviable position of Ijebu Ife among the frontline towns in the South West region of the country.
One of the major highlights of the event was the convergence of the old students of Ijebu Ife Community Grammar School, ICGS, on their alma mater for the inauguration of a multi-million Naira ICT center donated by one of them.
While addressing the crowd of students and staff of the school at the inauguration, the new Otunba Amesofe expressed confidence that the new ICT facility would earn the school accreditation as a Computer-Based Test Center, CBT, for the JAMB examination.
