The Brigade Commander of the 32 Artillery Brigade, Owena Cantonment, Akure, Brigadier General John Rimbut Lar, has likened the relationship between the Nigerian Army and National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, to that of Siamese twins.
The Brigade Commander made the remark when he received in audience the new State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps in Ondo State, Mr. Samuel Amaramiro Pepple, in his office.
Lar promised to ensure that the new helmsman of the scheme in the state enjoyed maximum cooperation of the brigade.
While disclosing that corps members were precious to the Nigerian Army, Lar hinted that their operation was all encompassing and it would provide maximum security to the members of the service corps as an integral part of the society.
“The Federal Government of Nigeria, parents and the society at large have invested massively in the lives of these patriotic Nigerians who have obeyed the clarion call to serve the nation and I want to give my word now that we shall do all within our legitimate duties to protect all and sundry,” he said.
Speaking earlier, the Pepple thanked the hierarchy of the Army formation in the state for accepting to host NYSC within a very short notice.
“The Brigade Commander Sir, your acceptance to have me in audience within a very short notice shows the pragmatism of your leadership and the dynamism which the prestigious institution, Nigerian Army, is noted for. We salute your administrative style and we wish you turbulent-free tenure.”
Pepple said he was at the cantonment was to familiarise with the Brigade Commander, being a very sensitive and key stakeholder of the NYSC.
“I am here to inform the command that I have just reported in Ondo State for duties and it behoves me to visit critical stakeholders and seek their support and collaboration. I am here to appeal for special attention for our corps members who are serving in all the 18 local governments of the state.”
He thanked the General for the quality of officers and men they released for orientation course assignment, saying that NYSC would be looking forward to have similar people of proven integrity during the forthcoming 2024 Batch ‘A’ (Stream II) orientation course exercise.
The state coordinator was accompanied on the visit by Assistant Director/Head, Corps Inspection and Monitoring, Mrs. Christianah Oluwatoyin Afolayan and Assistant Director/Head, Deployment and Relocation, Mr. Wale Oyinloye Owolabi.
