The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has underscored the vital role of strategic communication in showcasing the achievements of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
This is as he urged media stakeholders to utilise the forthcoming 2026 national convention of the All Progressives Congress as a platform to project the party’s progress and accomplishments.
The minister made the remark on Monday in Abuja during the inauguration of the Media and Publicity Subcommittee of the 2026 APC National Convention, held at the minister’s Conference Room, Radio House, Abuja.
Idris, who serves as co-chairman of the subcommittee, described the upcoming convention as a landmark event in the life of the ruling party, noting that it presented another opportunity for the party to deepen internal democracy and reaffirm its commitment to building a united, prosperous and progressive Nigeria.
“As you are all aware, this convention represents a significant milestone in the life of our great party as we continue to strengthen internal democracy and consolidate our vision for a united, prosperous and progressive Nigeria,” the minister stated.
He noted that the administration of President Tinubu was implementing far-reaching reforms aimed at repositioning Nigeria for sustainable growth and long-term development, adding that the APC remained resolute in its commitment to advancing the president’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
According to the minister, the national convention will also provide a veritable platform for the party to demonstrate unity, discipline and collective dedication to national development.
Idris emphasised that in today’s fast-evolving information environment, effective communication was central to the success of major political events.
He noted that the Media and Publicity Subcommittee carried a strategic responsibility in ensuring that the message and outcomes of the convention were clearly and accurately communicated to the public.
“The responsibility entrusted to this committee is both strategic and critical. The success of any major political event depends greatly on how effectively its message is communicated to the public,” he said.
He explained that the committee’s role extended beyond routine publicity, stressing that members were expected to facilitate accurate information dissemination, strengthen transparency, coordinate media engagement and ensure that the processes and outcomes of the convention were effectively communicated to Nigerians and the international community.
The minister further outlined the core responsibilities of the subcommittee to include content development, media relations, media planning and buying, liaison with other subcommittees on media-related activities, report writing and documentation, as well as media monitoring, performance evaluation and reporting across print and broadcast platforms.
He added that the subcommittee would also oversee the coordination and administration of all media activities associated with the convention.
Idris urged members to approach their assignment with professionalism, creativity and a strong sense of responsibility, noting that strategic deployment of media platforms would guarantee extensive and positive coverage of the convention.
“I therefore encourage members to approach this assignment with utmost professionalism, creativity and a strong sense of duty. By leveraging media platforms to amplify our reach, we must ensure that the convention receives wide and positive coverage while upholding the highest standards of credibility and integrity,” he said.
Congratulating members of the subcommittee on their appointment, the minister expressed confidence that their wealth of experience and expertise would play a pivotal role in ensuring the successful organisation and communication of the 2026 APC national convention.
He subsequently declared the Media and Publicity Subcommittee formally inaugurated and wished members success in the discharge of their responsibilities.
