A magistrates’ court in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, has granted lawyer and human rights activist, Mr. Dele Farotimi, N30 million bail.
Farotimi is standing trial over alleged criminal defamation, following a petition against him by Chief Afe Babalola, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN.
Babalola accused the activist of criminally defaming him in a book published recently.
Farotimi has however pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun granted the bail on Friday.

The bail conditions, according to the magistrate, included two sureties.
Farotimi was directed to surrender his “international passport” to the court.
He was also instructed not to grant media interview during the duration of the case.
The court, before granting the bail, ruled that Farotimi’s lawyer, Olumide Fusika, SAN, was prohibited from appearing before the court.
The magistrate hinged the prohibition on Section 9 of the Magistrate’s Courts Law 2014.
