Organisers of the Adron Games 2021 have named former Nigeria internationals, Daniel Amokachi and Austin Eguavoen, as well as ex-Olympic athlete, Falilat Ogunkoya-Omotayo, as ambassadors for the 5th edition of the event.
The event is scheduled to hold at Gateway Stadium, Sagamu, Ogun State in November.
Group Managing Director of Adron Homes Limited, Aare Adetola Emmanuel King, who unveiled the sports personalities in Lagos on Thursday, said the sponsor reckoned the contribution of the trio to sports development in Nigeria during their active years.
He stated that they had also proved useful in retirement.
“We appreciate the imperative of developing sports as a viable way of keeping fit and living a healthy life,” King said, adding that the latest edition had been broadened to cater for the welfare of participants and medals.
He promised that the prize money would be higher than in previous editions.
According to King, the 2021 edition tagged “Be fit for the top” considered the ex-sports personalities most suitable to drive home to Nigerians.
“Nigeria is gradually getting to see sports as business and not just recreation and we hope to factor extensively on this reality,” King also said.
More than 700 athletes will compete for honours in athletics, wrestling, football and other sports in the Adron Games 2021, with the participants comprising mainly staff of Adron Homes Limited and students from schools across Ogun State.
Meanwhile, former Nigeria international who is CEO, Match International, and consultant for the Adron Games, Mr. Waidi Akanni, has given the assurance that the 2021 event would offer unprecedented packages for fans and spectators alike.
“Our aim is to keep improving on the past editions and we hope that this year will prove that,” Akanni said.
