The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has assured corps members deployed to Ondo State and others that would be coming on relocation that the scheme will continue to cater for their wellbeing and safety.

The State Coordinator, Mrs. Kuburat Omowumi Bakare, gave the assurance when she presided over the closing ceremony to signal the end of the orientation course for 2024 Batch ‘C’ (Stream 1) corps members.

Bakare said that Ondo is a peaceful state and that one of the priorities of the government of the day is the safety of lives and property of all, irrespective of political, ethnic or religious leanings.

“Government will continue to strive, more than ever before, to ensure that corps members in all the nooks and crannies of the state receive special security attention. Nevertheless, you have a role to play in this by making sure you are identified as corps members all the time and avoid mixing with miscreants and hoodlums”.

The NYSC Ondo State boss enjoined the members of the service corps to accept their postings in good faith, and engrave their names in the hearts of people of various communities who desire the development and transformation of the rural communities by embarking on projects that meet their immediate needs.

“Most of your predecessors have set enviable records in this regard, and you cannot afford to let them down. I urge you, therefore, to rededicate yourselves by making the best use of this once in a lifetime opportunity in the service of our people,” she said.

The coordinator reminded them of the need to obtain permission from the appropriate quarters before they embark on any journey and insisted that they must not travel in the night for any reason.

On skills acquisition, the NYSC helmsman in the Ondo State appealed to the corps participants to acquire at least one life skill before the end of their service year, asserting that such a move would ensure that they not only contribute to the socio-economic development of Ondo State but Nigeria in general.

She charged them to imbibe and internalise the lessons they have learnt within the spell of their orientation course and make them guiding principles throughout the service year and beyond.

“You must, therefore, put yourselves at the forefront of the promotion of our crusade for national re-orientation of rebirth as enunciated by our dear president. You must also give impetus to our quest for a renewed sense of oneness in an egalitarian nation where no man is oppressed.”

Finally, the NYSC administrator overseeing the affairs of the scheme in Ondo State extended her profound gratitude to all camp officials who have contributed immensely to the success of the orientation course, adding that they should keep it up in their future endeavours.

Out of 1,293 that registered for the service in Ondo State, 362 applied for relocation to other states of the federation, while 250 applications were successful based on marital and health considerations.

The highlight of the event was the donation of 15 waste baskets and one wall clock by the Corps Camp Directors.
