The State Director of Security, Department of State Services, DSS, Ondo State Command, Mr. Ahidjo Vanokah Abraham, has described the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, as a national programme that his command gives premium to.
Abraham made the remarks on Tuesday when he hosted the NYSC Ondo State Coordinator, Mr. Samuel Amaramiro Pepple, in his office in Akure, the state capital.
Abraham who stated that the command and NYSC had several things in common promised not only to sustain the relationship with the scheme but improve on it.
“The National Youth Service Corps which was established in 1973 by the administration of General Yakubu Gowon (retd) has its core mandate to promote unity among all Nigerians irrespective of their backgrounds, and I must say that the scheme has lived up to the billing since it was established over five decades ago.”
He added: “We are proud to be a very critical stakeholder with the scheme because our operations have assisted the NYSC in several ways, through our intelligence service.”

The security chief asserted that DSS as a leading intelligence institution collaborated and worked in synergy with other sister security and intelligence agencies to ensure that peace reigned supreme in the country.
“Most of the citizens and residents of this great country don’t know the intricacies involved in our operations because intelligence gathering is not what you display on the streets or advertise in the media but we try all the time to ensure that peace reigns supreme in the land.”
Abraham said that his command was not unaware of the security challenges in the land but disclosed that they gathered and shareed intelligence information with sister agencies to nip in the bud any threat or security issues that reared its ugly head.
He congratulated the state coordinator and wished him outstanding success in the state.
Speaking earlier, Pepple thanked the command for not failing the scheme each time NYSC called.
“Your Command has been of tremendous importance and assistance to the NYSC and I want to plead with you to continue to give us best attention as you have always been doing. It will not speak well for me not to see you as I assumed office because no greater sacrifice is more than protection of corps members in all the nooks and crannies of the state.
“I want to plead with you not to rest on your oars in your service to us. I am here to ask for your continuous support because my predecessor briefed me that this Command has been of tremendous assistance to the Scheme. Whenever we come to pester you for one assistance or the other, kindly endure us because your knowledge and intelligence are invaluable to us.”
Pepple pleaded with the DSS Chief to impress it upon his staff at all the local governments in the state to put special attention on Corps lodges and other residential buildings occupied by corps members.
“The State Director Sir, the security situation in the country calls for more dedicated approach to securing the lives and properties of the citizens and residents of this country and I want to appeal that you encourage your personnel who are working in the Local Governments to keep their eagle eyes on all Corps Lodges and other residential homes of the corps members.”
