Nigerian workers under the umbrellas of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and Trade Union Congress, TUC, are to embark on a nationwide strike on Wednesday to protest the attack on Joe Ajaero.
Ajaero who is the president of the NLC was attacked during a protest in Owerri on non-payment of workers by the Imo State government.
He was reported to have also been picked and detained by the police.
The police had, however, said that the NLC leader was put in protective custody to save him from being attacked by a mob.
The leaders of the labour unions, during the briefing, called on the federal government to remove the Commissioner of Police in Imo State, Ahmed Barde, from office, over alleged complicity.
They also called for a thorough medical treatment of Ajaero.
The labour leaders also called for the treatment of others, including journalists, who were attacked, just as they called for the recovery of their lost properties.
