The Flamingos of Nigeria have reached the semi-finals of the ongoing FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco after defeating Venezuela 1-0 on Sunday night.
The Nigerian girls snatched the victory in the 89th minute when Azeezatt Oduntan converted her spot kick to give Nigeria the lead.
The quarter-final clash had been cagey with both teams defending properly but the Venezuela goalkeeper had more credits for outstanding saves.
The deadlock was broken in the 88th minute when Oluebube Umejiaku won a penalty for the Flamingos, and after VAR review, Azeezatt Oduntan made no mistake in converting it.
With the victory, Flamingos will now meet Brazil in the semi-finals.
Brazil had earlier secured a 2-1 win over China in their quarter-final encounter.
