The Police in Ogun have arrested a principal suspect in the alleged murder of a 61-year-old retired teacher, Mrs Adedotun Oluwaseun.

The ‌‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‌Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Friday in Abeokuta.

Babaseyi said the suspect, Saburi Ayinde, popularly known as Oki-Ocean, was arrested on Monday following sustained investigations by the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Abeokuta.

He said Oluwaseun was allegedly murdered at her residence in Agbaakin Emere, Bode-Olude, Abeokuta, on February 27.

Her body was discovered in the toilet of her residence on February 28, a day after she reportedly attended a retirement celebration organised by her colleagues.

According to Babaseyi,  preliminary investigations indicated that the deceased was allegedly strangled and attacked with a machete during an altercation with the suspect.

He said the suspect reportedly confessed to the killing, linking the incident to financial dealings with the deceased.

“Detectives are working to corroborate the suspect’s account and establish the full circumstances surrounding the murder,” Babaseyi said.

The police spokesperson said the investigation was ongoing to verify the suspect’s account and establish the circumstances that led to the retired teacher’s death.

He quoted the Commissioner of Police in Ogun, Mr Bode Ojajuni, as commending the investigating officers for their persistence, professionalism and commitment to securing the breakthrough.

Ojajuni reiterated the command’s commitment to thorough investigations, accountability and the prosecution of offenders in accordance with the law.

He urged residents to resolve disputes lawfully and promptly report criminal activities to the police.

The commissioner assured residents that credible information provided to the command would be handled professionally.
