The three abducted staff members of the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria, CRIN, Ibadan, have regained their freedom after six days in captivity.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed this in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, on Wednesday in Ibadan.

Ayanlade said that the rescued kidnap victims were currently undergoing debriefing by the police command in the state.

He, however, said efforts were underway to apprehend the kidnappers.

“Yes, they have been rescued, and we are currently debriefing them.

“Efforts are also currently on to apprehend the perpetrators,” he said.

The victims, Eunice Babalola, Kehinde Gbalajobi and another, simply identified as Nelson, were kidnapped by gunmen at the institute’s nursery on Thursday at about 1.00 p.m.

Sources familiar with the incident disclosed that the kidnappers initially demanded N40 million for each of the victims before reducing it to N50 million for the three.

However, it is not clear whether ransom was paid to secure their freedom.
