Trinity University, Yaba, Lagos, has announced that 323 students will graduate at its fifth convocation ceremony, with 79 earning First Class degrees and two recording a perfect Cumulative Grade Point Average, CGPA, of 5.00.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Clement O. Kolawole, disclosed this on Monday at a press conference marking the commencement of activities for the institution’s fifth convocation ceremony, scheduled to run from October 12 to 16, 2026.

He said 161 of the graduating students are from the Faculty of Basic Medical and Applied Sciences while 109 are from the Faculty of Arts, Management and Social Sciences.

53 others, according to the V-C, are from the Faculty of Nursing Sciences.

The two students who achieved the perfect CGPA are Osemen Joy Esezobor of the Department of Computer Science and Osayuware Toluwalase Osazuwa of the Department of International Relations.

Kolawole said that the university was proud of the students’ academic achievements, noting that their performances reflected the institution’s commitment to quality teaching and academic excellence.

According to him, 147 graduates are in the Second Class Upper Division, 48 in the Second Class Lower Division, while 10 are graduating with Third Class degrees.

The Vice-Chancellor said that the university had adopted deliberate measures to support students’ academic and personal development, including effective teaching, exposure to successful professionals and practical learning.

“We adopted three approaches to support the students: proper teaching, role models of people who have made it, and practical methods of learning,” he said.

He explained that the university regularly invited accomplished personalities, including the chairman of Coscharis Motors, to interact with students and inspire them to pursue excellence in their chosen fields.

Kolawole added that entrepreneurship had become an integral part of the university’s programmes, with every student required to undertake an entrepreneurship course alongside their core academic studies.

“We have also deepened our commitment to entrepreneurship and the employability of our products by making skills acquisition compulsory for all students alongside their core programmes,” he said.

The Vice-Chancellor disclosed that some students had already secured international remote jobs before graduation through the institution’s digital literacy partnership.

He said that the university was committed to producing well-rounded graduates equipped with knowledge, practical skills and sound character.

“We are small, but we are deliberate in what we do. We have core values that we hold sacrosanct. We make concerted efforts to ensure that our students leave as complete individuals in learning, character and other aspects of life.

“We expect our graduates to have skills, character and the fear of God. They are a set of graduates that are different from others,” he said.

Kolawole said that the institution attached considerable importance to character development, adding that its objective was to produce graduates who would represent the university positively wherever they found themselves.

The Vice-Chancellor also announced that Trinity University had produced its first homegrown professor, describing the development as an important milestone in the institution’s growth.

He identified her as Professor Modupeade Adetunji, a specialist in Food Microbiology and Mycotoxicology, whose elevation to the professorial cadre was recently approved by the Governing Council.

According to him, the development demonstrates the university’s commitment to staff development, academic quality and institutional maturity.

“A major milestone in our institutional growth is that the university has now produced its first homegrown professor,” Kolawole said, adding that further promotions were being processed and would be announced in due course.

He also disclosed that the university had strengthened its workforce with qualified personnel, expanded its classrooms, laboratories and offices, and introduced additional academic programmes following resource verification by the National Universities Commission, NUC.

The Vice-Chancellor said that the university’s programmes had received approval from the NUC and relevant professional bodies.

He added that three programmes were approved in August 2026, while four of its 19 programmes were due for reaccreditation.

Kolawole explained that holding two convocation ceremonies within the same calendar year was part of a strategic reorganisation approved by the Governing Council.

He said that the decision was intended to bring graduation ceremonies closer to the completion of students’ academic programmes, allowing them to proceed promptly with the National Youth Service Corps scheme, meet admission deadlines for foreign universities and participate physically in their graduation ceremonies.

“This is in the best interest of our students. It enables them to proceed promptly for the mandatory National Youth Service, meet deadlines for admission into foreign universities, and ensures that they are physically present to celebrate their own graduation,” he said.

The Vice-Chancellor said that this year’s convocation was themed, “Convoking a Galaxy of Trinity Stars: Shining the Trinity Light to the World.”

He explained that the theme reflected the university’s objective of producing graduates who would project its values and make meaningful contributions to society.

Kolawole said that Trinity University’s students were receiving practical training in healthcare facilities across Lagos State, including the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital and Igbobi-related medical facilities.

He expressed confidence in the quality of training provided to students, saying the institution’s professional programmes were designed to prepare graduates for the demands of their respective fields.

The convocation week will include the professional induction of Nursing Science graduates by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria on Tuesday, October 13, and the induction of Medical Laboratory Science graduates by the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria on Wednesday, October 14.

Other activities include student celebrations, an alumni homecoming, a convocation lecture and a thanksgiving service.

The grand finale, featuring the conferment of degrees and presentation of prizes, is scheduled for Friday, October 16.

Earlier, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Pastor Samuel Olatunji, expressed gratitude to God, parents, staff and council members for their contributions to the university’s development.

He recalled that the institution began with about seven students in the 2019/2020 academic session, saying it had continued to grow despite the challenges associated with building a young university.

“We started with about seven students in 2019/2020, and so many things have happened since then,” Olatunji said.

He added that the university was building a strong academic workforce and improving its curriculum to prepare students for future challenges.

“The curriculum is being improved to ensure that we are well prepared for the 24th century,” he said.

Olatunji identified integrity, excellence, faith in God and commitment to the community as values guiding the institution, expressing confidence that it would continue to improve.

In his welcome remarks, the Registrar, Mr David O. Oyejide, said that the university was pleased to have members of the media share in its achievements as it prepared to graduate its fifth set of students.

Founded on May 20, 2019, Trinity University is holding its fifth convocation ceremony under the theme of producing graduates who will make a positive impact in their communities and beyond.
