Former vice president and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Atiku Abubakar, has approved the composition of a national campaign council and presidential campaign management committee for the 2027 elections.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Thursday by the Director of Strategic Communication, ADC Presidential Campaign Council and Senior Special Assistant to Atiku, Mr Phrank Shaibu.
According to Shaibu, Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, a political organiser and administrator, will chair the National Campaign Council, while former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai will serve as Deputy Chairman.
He said that Sen. Austin Akobundu, representing Abia Central, would serve as Director-General and Campaign Manager, overseeing the day-to-day coordination and implementation of campaign activities across Nigeria.
“Akobundu, a retired Colonel of the Nigerian Army and former Minister of State for Defense, brings military, administrative, legislative and political experience to the assignment.
“The campaign structure will comprise six operational directorates, each headed by a Deputy Director-General, with 30 Directors assigned specific responsibilities across the directorates,” the statement reads in part.
It also noted that Dele Momodu, a journalist and publisher, would head the Media and Communications Directorate as Deputy Director-General, coordinating media operations across traditional, broadcast and digital platforms.
Sen. Dino Melaye would also participate in the campaign structure, with responsibilities relating to political mobilisation, national outreach and public engagement, according to the statement.
“Mohammed Hayatudeen, economist, banker and public policy practitioner, will coordinate the policy team, working alongside Professor Mohammed Sagagi and Aare Aremijoye on policy development.
“Professor Kingsley Moghalu, former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, will contribute expertise in monetary policy, financial-sector governance and economic development.
“The Campaign Advisory Council will be chaired by John Oyegun, former Edo Governor and pioneer National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC),” the statement reads further.
Former Senator Ben Obi and Lawal Batagarawa will serve as deputy chairmen, while Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, will serve as Secretary of the campaign advisory council.
According to Shaibu, the campaign will focus on issues including food, transportation and energy costs, unemployment, insecurity, purchasing power, and governance challenges nationwide.
