A distinguished alumnus of Ogun State Polytechnic (now Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta), Alhaji Hafeez Ipesa-Balogun, has pledged to construct a modern Instrumentation workshop as a legacy project for the Department of Electrical/Electronics Engineering of the Polytechnic.
The proposed project is aimed at providing students with a conducive, furnished and well-equipped facility to enhance practical learning and technical skills development.
Alhaji Ipesa-Balogun, who was a vibrant student of the Polytechnic between 1983 and 1985, studied Electrical and Electronics Engineering and was actively involved in student leadership during his academic years.
Recounting his experience as a student, he disclosed that he was elected in absentia as a member of the Students’ Union Caretaker Committee during his ND I and later became a member of the Students’ Representative Council, SRC, where he served as the Speaker.
Upon completing his National Diploma programme, Alhaji Ipesa-Balogun proceeded to further his education in aviation, specialising in Aircraft Engineering.
He further recalled that, upon graduating from the College of Aviation, his first employment opportunity came from the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, who requested the best graduating student for employment with the Concord Airlines.
Speaking on the proposed Instrumentation Workshop project, Alhaji Ipesa-Balogun assured the management that he would provide the necessary building materials and funds, while the Polytechnic would provide the requisite professional and technical expertise to facilitate the timely completion of the project.
He explained that his decision to give back to his alma mater was inspired by his recognition of the institution’s positive contribution to his personal and professional achievements.
He also noted that the institution’s renaming after his great benefactor, Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, further strengthened his desire to contribute to its development.
He also appreciated the Rector, an alumnus, too with whom they were both together at the then Onikolobo campus of the Polytechnic, who contacted him and facilitated his homecoming for this journey towards giving back to the Institution.
In his response, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Arc. Dr. ‘Koye Jolaoso, on behalf of the management, expressed appreciation to Alhaji Hafeez Ipesa-Balogun for the proposed legacy project, describing the gesture as a valuable contribution towards the rebranding and repositioning agenda of the present administration.
The Rector commended the alumnus for remembering his alma mater and called on other distinguished alumni of the Polytechnic to emulate the tradition of giving back to the institution that contributed to their education, growth and professional development.
