Mr. Bolaji Olasunkanmi of The Daily Monitor has been elected as the chairman of the Photojournalists Association of Nigeria, PJAN, Lagos State Chapter.
He was elected on Thursday at the secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Lagos Council, Alausa, Ikeja.
During the election which was to usher in new executive members to run the affairs of the association for the next three years, Mr. Paul Timothy, a freelance photojournalist was retained unopposed as the vice chairman.
Announcing the outcome of the exercise, the chairman of the PJAN electoral committee, Mr. Bamidele Lamidi, also confirmed the re-election of the incumbent secretary, Kazeem Bakenne, Managing Editor of Nationalmomentng.com; Comrade Leke Ajebo, Photo Editor of the Information Unit of Amuwo Herald and Amuwo Prism, as Assistant Secretary, unopposed.
Other elected officers are Kola Aliu, Senior Photojournalist with Leadership Newspaper, as Treasurer; Michael Otogo, The Economy News Magazine, as Financial Secretary, and Abiodun Omotoso, Managing Editor of TheForesightNG, as Internal Auditor, unopposed.
In his response, the chairman-elect, Bolaji Olasunkanmi, thanked everyone who took time to attend the event despite the heavy downpour.
He promised to, as a team leader, to harness the association’s collective potential in order to meet 21st-century industry challenges, and uphold the high standards of professionalism for which PJAN is known.
Furthermore, Olasunkanmi stated that he would prioritise members’ welfare, ensure total accountability, and build strategic partnerships with key stakeholders.
”We will also work closely with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) – Lagos State Council for the mutual benefit of all members,” he promised.
Dignitaries who graced the occasion include Chairman, NUJ Lagos State Council, Mr. Adeleye Ajayi; the Secretary, Mr. Tunde Olalere; Chairperson of NAWOJ Lagos, Mrs. Jumoke Falayi Johnson; Member, Electoral Committee, Mr. Kehinde Shonola; Sunday Adedeji; Isaac Ayodele; Godwin Irehke; Idowu Ogunleye amongst others.
Bolaji Olasunkanmi is an award winning journalist and media personality, widely known for his work in news coverage, society reporting, and lifestyle journalism.
He had attended several media trainings to hone his skills in journalism and has several awards in his kitty.
In 2022, he authored his first book. “My Lens, My Odyssey: Times, People and Events.”
The book showcased dignitaries who have led remarkable Iives in various fields of endeavour and impacted lives in positive ways.
