The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office, LSWMO, has sealed I-Fitness Gym at Jakande Roundabout, Lekki Peninsula, Eti-Osa, for allegedly discharging untreated sewage into public drains.
The Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a post on his Facebook page on Tuesday.
Wahab said the enforcement action followed the discovery of a pipe channeling raw wastewater from the facility into the public drainage system.
According to him, the act constitutes a public nuisance, causes environmental pollution and poses serious risks to public health.
He said improper wastewater disposal remained a major environmental challenge requiring strict compliance with environmental and sanitation regulations.
The commissioner reiterated the state government’s call on residents and organisations to adopt proper wastewater management practices to protect public health and the environment.
He warned that individuals and organisations found violating environmental laws would face appropriate sanctions, including possible prosecution in accordance with extant regulations.
