The Police Command in Nasarawa has detained two suspects for alleged criminal conspiracy, trespass, theft, and unlawful possession of firearms in Keffi local government area of the state.
SP Ramhan Nansel, Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in the state made this known in a statement on Sunday in Lafia.
The PPRO described the feat as a significant operational success recorded by the command in its effort to rid the state of criminal elements.
Nansel said on Saturday, at about 10:30 am, a resident of Keffi, reported to the Keffi Divisional Headquarters that one of the suspects had unlawfully trespassed into his room.
“The complainant further stated that upon raising an alarm, the suspect fled with his Android phone.”
According to Nansel, acting swiftly on the report, detectives attached to the division launched an intelligence-led operation.
“The operation led to the arrest of the principal suspect and one other male resident of Mayanka, Keffi.”
The PPRO explained that a search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of some exhibits.
“The exhibits include one locally made pistol loaded with one live cartridge, two sharp cutlasses, one knife, two Tecno Android phones, one Itel mobile phone, a bunch of keys, and other incriminating items,” he said.
He said the suspects were currently in police custody, while investigation was ongoing to determine the extent of their involvement in other criminal activities and to facilitate any necessary further action.
Nansel said that the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro-Mohammed, commended the prompt response and professionalism of the officers involved in the operation.
The spokesperson further assured residents of the command’s unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property.
He urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to assist the Police in combating crime across the State.
