Nollywood biopic, ‘Efunroye: The Unicorn’ is set for nationwide cinema release on May 1.

Faithia Williams, ace actress and producer of the epic film, announced the release date on her verified instagram page@faithiawilliams.

The post reads “’I am Faithia Williams Balogun, and this project is a purpose wrapped in frames and films. EFUNROYE: THE UNICORN is my first cinematic debut.

“A dream I carried for years. A story I fought to tell. A legacy I am determined to honour.

“Before Lagos became an empire…Before power was negotiated in palaces…Power had a name – EFUNROYE-The Unicorn.

“On May 1, 2026, EFUNROYE storms cinemas nationwide.”

The sensational actress and filmmaker added that she was dedicating ‘Efunroye’, her cinematic debut to her late mother who recently passed on.

“My mother is gone… and I haven’t even laid her to rest yet. Every day since her passing has felt heavy. The calls. The condolences. The quiet moments when it finally sinks in.

“Grief does not wait for you to be ready; it just sits on your chest. I could have stayed away. I could have mourned in silence.

“But I chose to rise, for my mother, for my legacy, for this story.

“When you see me promoting this film, understand, it is not noise. It is resilience. It is a daughter pushing through heartbreak to fulfil a promise to herself… and to her mother.”

‘Efunroye – The Unicorn’, set in pre-colonial and early colonial Yoruba lands, portrays the life and influence of Efunroye Tinubu, a prominent Yoruba merchant and powerbroker who played a major role in Lagos politics and commerce.

The movie, which tells the core story of Efunroye’s journey from market seller to influential kingmaker, celebrates the history of the Yoruba people and the legacy and recognition of women in leadership.

The plot follows the rise of a young girl born near Abeokuta who learns the trade of her mother and grandmother, grows into a resourceful, formidable Yoruba merchant, and builds power through trade, politics, and alliances.

The lead character of Efunroye Tinubu is portrayed by Faithia Williams, alongside other cast members, including   Mercy Aigbe, Odunlade Adekola and Ibrahim Yekini.

Other cast members include Saidi Balogun, Taiwo Hassan, Ibrahim Chatta, Layi Wasabi, Eniola Ajao, Femi Branch, and Femi Adebayo, among others.
