The Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Jibril Ismail Falgore, his Deputy, Muhammad Butu- Butu, the Majority Leader, Lawan Hussain, and 19 other lawmakers have resigned their membership of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP.
The lawmakers also declared their full support for Governor Abba Yusuf.
The announcement is contained in a statement issued by the Press Secretary of the Kano State House of Assembly, Kamaludden Shawai, and made available to newsmen in Kano on Saturday.
According to him, those who resigned their membership of the NNPP included the Speaker of the House, the Deputy Speaker, the Majority Leader, the Deputy Majority Leader, Garba Fammar, and the Chief Whip, Muddasir Zawachiki.
Others were lawmakers representing constituencies such as Ajingi, Albasu, Bagwai/Shanono, Bebeji, Bunkure, Dawakin Kudu, Fagge, Gabasawa, Garko, Gwale, Karaye, Kura/Garun Malam, Madobi, Minjibir, Rano, Tarauni and Wudil.
Shawai said that a total of 22 members of the House were involved in the defection.
He added that the Kano State House of Assembly had verified and authenticated the list of the lawmakers as released.
The assembly explained that the announcement was made to properly inform the public and clarify the political position of the affected lawmakers following the governor’s resignation from the NNPP.
