One of the co-founders of Newswatch Magazine, Yakubu Mohammed, is dead.
He was 75 years old.
Mohammed died on Tuesday in Lagos after a brief illness.
The death of the top journalist was confirmed by the governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Ododo, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media Hon. Ismaila Isah, on Wednesday.
The governor described Mohammed as “a proud son of Kogi State from Dekina Local Government Area whose contributions to nation-building transcended the media space.”
The governor declared that he belonged to a rare “generation of journalists who redefined courage, professionalism and integrity in Nigerian journalism and a man whose influence shaped public discourse and strengthened accountability in a democracy.”
Mohammed died about two months after his colleague and another co-founder of Newswatch, Dan Agbese, passed on at 81.
