The Guild of Corporate Online Publishers, GOCOP, has commiserated with its member, the publisher of Freedom Online, Mr. Gabriel Akinadewo, on the passing of his son, Washington Oluwagbenga.
Washington died on Sunday in Lagos at a private hospital following a brief illness.
The 21 years old who read Information Technology, recently completed his university education at Trinity University, Yaba, Lagos and was preparing to proceed on his National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, one-year programme in January.
He has since been buried.
In a letter of condolence signed by its president, Mr. Danlami Nmodu, and its General Secretary, Sufuyan Ojeifo, GOCOP expressed grief over the loss.
The GOCOP executives described Washington’s death as saddening and tragic, adding that his passing was a huge loss to his family and friends.
The Guild urged the Akinadewo family to take solace in the focused and productive life their late son lived.
The letter reads in part: “Washington’s life, though cut short, was a testament to his potential and promise. His impending National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in January 2026, consequent upon his graduation from the Trinity University, Lagos, where he studied Information Technology, was a milestone that symbolised his dedication to scholarship and nation-building. His passing is a profound loss to your family, the online publishing community, and the nation at large.
“In this dark hour, we find solace in the memories of Washington’s life, his accomplishments, and the legacy he leaves behind. May these memories bring you comfort and strength, and may the Almighty God grant you, your wife, and loved ones the fortitude to navigate this difficult time”.
The GOCOP executives prayed for the repose of Oluwagbenga’s soul and for God’s protection over his family and loved ones.
