Nigeria edged Liberia 1-0 on Wednesday to secure gold in the amputee football final at the maiden West Africa Para Games Zone A and B in Abeokuta.
Usman Tijani struck the lone goal in the first half of the tense contest held at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta.
Coach Gbenga Dosunmu told reporters he felt delighted to guide the team to “a proud gold medal for Nigeria” after weeks of intense preparation.
He credited the success to hard work, discipline and a shared passion for promoting Nigerian amputee football on the global stage.
Dosunmu urged government and private partners to back the team’s push for gold at the 2026 World Cup in Costa Rica and the Nations Cup in Morocco.
Cameroon secured the bronze medal with a commanding 2-0 victory over Benin in the third-place match.
Nigeria also triumphed in wheelchair basketball, beating Ghana 13-6 in the men’s category to add another gold medal to the tally.
Benin overwhelmed Niger 11-2 to claim the bronze medal in the hard-fought event.
